Dogs are wonderful characters that try to enjoy life to the full. In fact they are so full of life that it is actually quite difficult to tell the true extent of a problem they may have. They still treat us with love and affection and it may be difficult to tell if they are suffering.

Unfortunately, due to breeding, processed food diets and the new role of the domesticated pet, many more dogs are suffering from joint pain, arthritis and dysplasia. This may be from illness, injury, congenital disease or simply old age and large pedigree breeds are the most susceptible.

Given a dog’s high pain threshold it may be difficult to identify the extent of an injury or illness without resorting to an x-ray, however there are a number of signs that an owner can look for including:

Mobility issue e.g. not willing to climb stairs, falling behind on walks, not wanting to play
General lethargy
Limping
Difficulty getting up from a lying down position
Reluctance to allow petting

The most frequent mobility issue suffered by dogs is referred to as degenerative joint disease (DJD) also known as osteoarthritis (wear and tear arthritis) which is where the structure of a joint is worn down by illness, injury or general wear and tear to the extent where a dog’s natural rejuvenation and repair is insufficient to get back to normal function.

As in humans cartilage is the principal shock absorber in a dog’s joints and mobility issues arise when this is worn away and not replaced by the dog’s body. Cartilage is necessary in joints to cushion and prevent bones from rubbing against each other. The main constituent of cartilage is glucosamine which is a naturally occurring amino sugar found in the body of living animals. It is concentrated most in the cartilage and is believed to provide the building blocks to synthesize new cartilage development.

A young healthy dog will produce enough glucosamine and other essential vitamins and minerals to repair and replace old and damaged cartilage. In a dog suffering from DJD, the dog is unable to make enough of the substance itself and can benefit from receiving a supplement containing glucosamine.

Glucosamine and chondroitin have been successfully used to treat DJD in humans and dogs for several decades. In an ageing dog or one suffering from dysplasia the body’s natural replacement process is impaired and naturally occurring glucosamine is more difficult to extract. So the additional glucosamine and chondroitin is absorbed into a dog’s body to repair and rebuild cartilage and other tissue. Supplementing glucosamine in ageing dogs can significantly prolong an active life by halting the degeneration of old cartilage and promoting new cartilage growth.

A glucosamine supplement can take different forms such as tablets, pellets / powder and liquid options. The dosage strength can also vary and should be administered dependent on the condition of the dog. Often other active ingredients form part of the supplement and consideration should be given to the overall benefits a particular supplement may offer.

Glucosamine supplement products are often referred to as neutraceuticals as they imply health and medical benefits. They can often produce significant results within 2-4 weeks of taking them. There appear to be no recorded side effects for these supplements and they are widely recommended by veterinarians throughout the world.

Barker and Wags LeapDOG Natural Joint Nutrition is a neutraceutical maintenance supplement specifically for dogs suffering from or likely to suffer from any form of joint pain including DJD, arthritis and hip or elbow dysplasia. The formula includes glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and Vitamin C alongside other active ingredients, vitamins and minerals in an easily digestible oat-based pellet form that is quickly absorbed into a dog’s body. LeapDOG can be given to all dogs for a healthy more active life. Results are often seen within 3 weeks from taking the supplement.

Vitamins for the Treatment of Arthritis

Arthritis is the general term for the group of conditions that damage the joints and result in pain and stiffness in one or more of the body’s joints. The most common forms are Osteoarthritis (brittle cartilage), Rheumatoid Arthritis (where the body’s immune system attacks the joints), Gout (Created by a build-up of Uric Acid) and Ankylosing Spondylitis (Pain and stiffness in the lower part of the spine).

There are many methods for treating arthritis which may include Exercise Physiology, Phisiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Chiropractics, Acupuncture, Osteopathy, Naturopathy, Exercise and Medication.

A growing number of Arthritis sufferers are turning to ‘natural’ vitamin supplements as a preferred treatment method. Glucosamine, Chondroitin and Omega-3 Fish Oil all have substantial evidence to show their benefit in the treatment of Arthritis. MSM, Curcumin and Ginger also have minimal substantiated evidence.

Glucosamine is a natural sugar produced by the body that helps to repair and renew the cartilage tissue that protects the ends of the bones, allowing them to move freely next to each other. Many doctors are now actively prescribing Glucosamine Sulfate to Arthritis sufferers at a dosage of 1500mg per day.

Chondroitin is often used in combination with Glucosamine. At a dosage of 1200mg per day, it is said to help cartilage absorb nutrients and water into the cartilage to improve its shock absorption ability and prevent it from cracking or chipping. Fish and cod liver oil contains Omega-3s which are said to improve joint mobility and pain at a dosage of 450mg of fish oil per day. Research suggests that at 1500mg of MSM a day, this natural source of sulphur may have anti-inflammatory effects.

Curcumin (found in the Turmeric herb) is said to have significant anti-inflammatory effects when 6g of the Turmeric herb is taken per day over a course of three months.

Concentrated ginger extract has been shown by one study to reduce knee pain in arthritis sufferers.

Rosehip extract is also suggested to help reduce pain and stiffness in sufferers of Arthritis.

Whilst all of these nutrients and vitamins are said to have benefits for Arthritis sufferers, you should not under any circumstances substitute qualified medical advice with information found in this article. The author does not give or purport to give any medical or healthcare advice and is not qualified to do so.

A Natural Anti-Inflammatory Gains Acceptance

Acceptance among doctors of the use of natural anti-inflammatory compounds has been increasing in response to evidence that pins the blame for some heart attacks and deaths on COX-2 drugs. COX-2 inhibitors are drugs for inflammation that selectively block the COX-2 enzyme. Blocking this enzyme impedes the production of the chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause the pain and swelling of arthritis inflammation.

When COX-2 drugs appeared on the market in 1999, they were touted as the answer to the problems of the older nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which while effective against inflammation and the consequent pain, had a range of nasty side effects that included stomach ulcers and renal failure.

The COX-2 drugs were said to offer relief from the misery of arthritis pain and other forms of chronic inflammation, without the dangers of the older drugs. For a while, COX-2 drugs appeared to live up to the marketing hype. COX-2 drugs such as Vioxx and Celebrex became the most frequently prescribed new drugs in the United States. By October 2000, US sales exceeded 100 million prescriptions per year and were increasing rapidly. Sales of Celebrex alone reached .1 billion during 2001.

The future for this new class of drugs looked stellar, until a few doctors began to notice that their patients on COX-2 drugs experienced more adverse cardiac events than other patients. Research by concerned doctors led to one of the most popular COX-2 drugs, Vioxx, being withdrawn by its maker, Merck, in September of 2004, in response to data showing that it appeared to increase the risk of heart attack by several hundred percent. Other COX-2 withdrawals followed in various parts of the world.

There have been about 16,000 lawsuits against Merck in the United States and many more legal actions elsewhere in the world. It is thought that COX-2 inhibitors increase the risk of heart attack because they make blood platelets stickier, which can lead to the blockage of blood vessels. While Vioxx and Celebrex have the misfortune of being the best known of the COX-2 drugs accused of causing harm, they are by no means alone. A survey of 1.5 million patients that was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that the COX-2 inhibitor Dicolfenac increased the risk of heart attack by 40 percent.

COX-2 drugs are still being prescribed throughout the world, although evidence of the risks involved has caused an increasing number of doctors to look at other options.

This is a big step for most American-trained doctors, because US medical schools teach little about the use of natural alternatives.

By comparison, European medical schools treat natural alternatives as first-choice therapeutic options. The medical culture in Europe is quite different from that in the United States. A German doctor, for example, would likely consider prescribing a natural remedy for a patient as a first-choice option and would not resort to a synthetic drug unless or until the natural remedy had been shown to be insufficient for the needs of that patient.

The US situation is changing, though. Organizations such as the American Association of Integrative Medicine have made great strides in making medical professionals aware of low-cost, low-risk, efficacious natural options to synthetic drugs.

For example, there are natural anti-inflammatory options, such as marine oils and various plant oils, that have been found to have a modulating effect on the body’s inflammatory response. The problem with natural anti-inflammatories is that, with one notable exception, they are not particularly potent, so large doses are needed to achieve a therapeutic benefit.

The notable exception is a product called Lyprinol, which is the result of a patented process that extracts the lipid (marine oil) fractions of the New Zealand green-lipped mussel. Research conducted at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, Australia, by Dr. Sir Michael Whitehouse and published in the peer-reviewed journal Inflammopharmacology, showed that Lyprinol was 350 times more potent than salmon oil, 350 times more potent than other green-lipped mussel products (powders), and 400 times more potent than flax seed oil. Dr. Whitehouse also compared the efficacy of Lyprinol with that of synthetic anti-inflammatory drugs, and Lyprinol was the winner again. He found that as an anti-inflammatory the mussel oil was 97 percent effective. None of the other marine oils, or pharmaceuticals such as Indomethacin, were able to achieve a result that matched the effectiveness of the mussel oil.

Even more important, Lyprinol achieved this high level of efficacy without causing any nasty side effects and or adverse interactions with other medications. The mussel lipid fraction extract is also protein free, and therefore safe for people who have an adverse reaction to shellfish. During more than two decades of use and research, there has never been a single recorded adverse reaction to the pure extracted oil of the New Zealand green-lipped mussel.

The mussel oil has another advantage over fish oil, in that it does not inhibit blood clotting. The consumption of large quantities of fish oil can be contraindicated for some patients who are on blood-thinning medications, because fish oil inhibits clotting.

In addition to the anti-inflammatory benefits of Lyprinol, it also plays a role in promoting good heart health, as one would expect of a potent omega 3 marine oil. Diets high in marine oils have been shown to be beneficial for cardiovascular health, because they inhibit the accumulation of atherosclerotic plaque (hardening of the arteries). Marine oils also reduce the level of the “bad” LDL cholesterol in the blood and help to keep the blood vessels supple and elastic.

Because Lyrinol has been shown to be 350 times more potent than salmon oil as a source of omega 3, it can deliver a worthwhile heart health benefit with a much smaller dose. For example, just one Lyprinol capsule has the potency of about a quarter of the typical bottle of fish oil capsules.

Arthritis Management Through Diet

The term “arthritis” refers to the chronic inflammation of joints throughout the body. Arthritis is one of the most rapidly growing chronic conditions in North America. Osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis, is also known as wear and tear arthritis and degenerative joint disease. This form of arthritis classically affects the knee joint, the hips and other weight bearing joints. Other forms include rheumatoid arthritis and gouty arthritis.

New treatments for arthritis are constantly researched. The most common arthritis medications are non-steroid or steroid anti-inflammatory drugs which, although effective, have serious side-effects. They can have unpleasant side effects: cause weight gain, acne, osteoporosis, hypertension, diabetes, cataracts and infections. The side effects of steroids impact on almost every system of the body, and the more steroids you take, the more side effects you are likely to experience.

The newest findings link arthritis not only to poor diet and obesity, but also to the overall state of the immune system. Quite recently, researchers have found a protein in the immune system that malfunctioned in patients who have arthritis or other inflammatory diseases. Doctors believe they can block this protein to reduce the need for steroids.

As the general population ages, the number of people with arthritis is growing. Today arthritis medications are aimed at baby-boomers who have spent more years living with obesity than the previous generation. Researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center have found that there are more cases of obesity-related arthritis among baby boomers compared to the previous generation.

What we eat often plays a large role in setting the stage for the start of arthritis. There are a few changes anyone can make to their diet to successfully offset arthritis even without using arthritis medications.

The typical North American diet contains an overwhelming amount of cooked, processed and other acid forming foods. A healthy diet should be 70% alkaline and 30% acidic. Unfortunately, the average North American diet has reversed this ratio.

Instead of eating cooked foods that are acid forming, a diet of mostly raw, fresh vegetables, fruits and reducing the consumption of meats are an excellent way to help reduce inflammation throughout the body.

To ease your arthritis symptoms without succumbing to arthritis medications, avoid foods that form acid in your body. These foods include bread, coffee, corn, honey, oatmeal, peanuts, rice, soy, pasta and wheat. When treating arthritis, stay away from saturated fats, such as butter, cream, and margarine.

Antioxidants in brightly colored fruits and vegetables offer substantial protection against arthritis. By eating more yellow and orange fruits and vegetables you will consume antioxidants called carotenoids, which can lower your chances of developing inflammatory arthritis. Some dietitians suggest that night-shade vegetables are unsuitable for arthritis patients, which means you should think twice about eating peppers, (red, green and yellow), potatoes, tomatoes and eggplants.

Build your arthritis diet around such alkaline-forming products as most berries, bananas, dates, figs, prunes, raisins, almonds, asparagus, avocado, fresh beans, beets, carrots, grapes, plums, spinach, apricots, broccoli, all kind of cabbage, cantaloupe, celery, cherries, chestnuts, chicory, coconut milk, fresh sweet corn and cucumbers. Focusing on vegetables instead of proteins will ease many other symptoms and help you reduce weight too.

Proper hydration is a must. Drink half your weight in ounces – that would be 75 oz of water for a person weighing 150 pounds. If you must drink alcohol, coffee or soda, drink an extra 16 oz of water for every alcoholic drink and cup of coffee or soda you consume in addition to the water you would normally drink.

Arthritis is a condition that takes years to develop. In many cases, arthritis can be avoided or effectively managed through the use of alternative methods that include proper nutrition, hydration and specific nutritional supplements that can reduce the damage done to aging joints.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease that causes your own body’s immune system to attack the tissue lining of the joints. An inflammatory disease of the joints that sometimes can disable the patient. This can lead to inflammation of the joints, muscles, affecting the surrounding world. As the result of inflammation, this causes pain, swelling, stiffness and loss of function in various joints of the body.

In rheumatoid arthritis, treatment, doctors generally prefer to use drugs. However, you have to face the potential side effects, especially if they depend too much to the relief of pain. You can consider natural treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. She almost does not cause side effects. You can use several methods to deal with pain more effectively.

A nutrient diet can help you manage the painful condition of arthritis. However, some foods can worsen the arthritic condition. For example, eating a lot of red meat may promote the development of rheumatoid arthritis. Arthritic many victims can not afford gluten, gliadin, and dairy goods. Medical documents show that a fast two weeks with vegetable broth can help reduce the signs of arthritis. Medical documents showing that the diet is abundant in cold-water fish can reduce inflammation. So take in large amounts of fruits and vegetables, and foods that are low in arachidonic acid (animal fat) for pain relief.

Herbs can help reduce the painful condition due to rheumatoid arthritis. Despite the fact that the herbs as food, have demonstrated its effectiveness as an aid in treating rheumatoid arthritis. Valerian is a botanical medicinal plant that has a strong possibility that they may heal muscle and joint pain. Ginger, curcumin, and boswellia are often used as natural treatments for rheumatoid arthritis. In Ayurveda, its use is essential to reduce inflammation. If you decide to use botanical supplements, always at the request of lawyers from your doctor.

Dietary supplements such as fish oil can naturally treat rheumatoid arthritis. Fish oil has high amounts of two omega-3: EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). These omega fatty acids may produce compounds that reduce the inflammatory condition. However, they can slow the progression of the disease.

Glucosamine is a kind of amino sugar, the fluid that surrounds the joints. Doctors believe it may help in the development and repair cartilage. Cartilage is an elastic tissue, but strong clothes that the ends of bones. This will not allow the bones to rub against each other, and absorbs the impact force… Chondroitin sulfate is a compound found in cartilage around the joints. It is part of a larger protein molecule (proteoglycan). It is responsible for the elasticity of cartilage. Glucosamine encourage and stimulate the development and reconstruction of the articular cartilage, while chondroitin sulfate prevents other body enzymes to slow the building blocks of joint cartilage.

Despite the fact that you can opt for natural treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, they should complement and not replace conventional care. Rheumatoid arthritis is not easy to treat. Even if you opt for natural methods, you should maintain regular visits to a rheumatologist to attend to serious complications.

Arthritis Pain – Natural Treatments For Arthritis

Edit Article |

]]>

Arthritis pain affects nearly 40 million people in the United States. If you suffer with arthritis, hot chili peppers, chondroitin and glucosomine are your friend.

Arthritis is defined as the inflammation of one or more joints, which causes pain, swelling, stiffness, and limits your movement. This article will examine the natural treatment of two of the most common types of arthritis-osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Natural Treatments For Arthritis

Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are not curable but it is possible to greatly reduce pain and suffering from chronic types of arthritis without synthetic drugs. In fact, changing your eating habits, getting more sleep and exercise without synthetic drugs is best for osteoarthritis and other forms of joint inflammation. Only use synthetic drugs after making natural changes to eating habits, exercise and rest, if absolutely necessary.

Exercise is extremely important to maintain healthy joints. It can reduce pain, alleviate stiff joints, and enhance muscle and bone strength. Here are three types of exercises that are commonly recommended

Range of motion exercises for flexibility
Low-impact aerobic activity
Strength training for muscle tone

Surprisingly, rest is just as important as exercise when dealing with arthritis. You should get 8 to 10 hours of sleep per night and take naps during the day (if possible) to help recover from “flare-ups” faster. Rest could even help prevent worsening pain. Along those lines you should also:

Reduce stress, which can aggravate your symptoms. Try meditation, guided imagery or even yoga.
Avoid positions or movements that place extra stress on your affected joints.
Avoid holding one position for too long.

Here are some other natural remedies you can try:

Change your diet to include vitamins and minerals, especially antioxidants like vitamin E. Antioxidants are found in fruits and vegetables. Add selenium to your diet from Brewer’s yeast, wheat germ, garlic, whole grains, and sunflower seeds. Add omega-3 fatty acids from cold water fish (like salmon, mackerel, and herring), flaxseed, rapeseed (canola) oil, soybeans, soybean oil, pumpkin seeds, and walnuts.
Use capsaicin cream, which is derived from hot chili peppers. This can be applied to the skin over your painful joints. You may feel improvement after applying the cream for 3-7 days. Capsaicin cream produces a temporary reduction in pain, so it must be used regularly to provide prolonged pain relief.
Take glucosamine and chondroitin — these natural supplements form the building blocks of cartilage, the substance that lines joints. This is what has been most effective for me and it is regarded as safe and with no side effects. These supplements are reasonable in price and many people have seen their symptoms improve dramatically especially when combined with other all-natural ingredients.

Arthritis Pain Relief- Curing Arthritis Symptoms With a Natural Treatment

The soothing words of ‘arthritis pain relief‘ bring you back to years ago when you didn’t have to worry about the pain, the stiffness, the misery associated with the disease. But now you are willing to try anything for curing the arthritis symptoms. But before you can cure it, you should know something about arthritis.

1. It is extremely important to know the cause before you know the cure.
2. Preventing arthritis is how you cure arthritis.

I understand the temptation with simply popping the pills that make the pain go away for hours. It’s easy and works like a Band-Aid to hide the problem. But during those few hours of comfort, you can actually be doing more physical harm to the arthritic joints. And that is why millions of people are curing arthritis symptoms with a natural treatment.

Two decades ago, it was believed that arthritis was just a symptom of old age. There was nothing you could do about it but deal with the pain. However, this all began to change after researchers discovered how indigenous tribes’ members in undeveloped countries lived to upwards of 100 years of age with no arthritis symptoms documented. What was even more astonishing was how these people would live, hunt, gather, plant, harvest and work right up till their dying day. How could this ever be?

Could a natural and healthy lifestyle be the cause of an arthritis free life? And could arthritis pain relief be as simple as altering your diet?

The Cause of Arthritis?

There are hundreds of different forms of arthritis but most often the cause of arthritis can be blamed on a person’s lifestyle health. Typically, arthritis is caused by the following: poor diet; unbalanced diet; inactive lifestyle; stress; inefficient vitamins; improper breathing; and lack of sleep. And if these are the causes of arthritis; then the cure for arthritis would be the opposite. Let me explain!

Arthritis Natural Treatment

Fact! A thirty year old landfill was recently uncovered and its contents were (to say the least) disturbing. In this landfill much of the garbage was decomposed but one thing of many that was NOT decomposed was a 30 year old hotdog. Scientists say that food preservatives kept the hotdog from spoiling. Are you thinking what I am thinking?

Preservatives are everywhere in our diets. Chances are, if you are reading this article via the internet, you have consumed numerous preservatives and additives already today. Because if you live in a developed country, your FDA has approved over a thousand additives and preservatives over the past few decades.

But what does this have to do with arthritis? Well consider how many tribesmen have never consumed one additive or preservative their entire life; and also have never suffered the slightest pain of arthritis.

Research has concluded that our diet is closely linked to arthritis pain relief. Here are 10 tips to begin your natural treatment today!

Arthritis Pain Relief Tips

1. Cans! Typically anything in a can is loaded with preservatives and additives. Including your average soft drink.

2. Caffeine! Drink less coffee and more herbal teas.

3. Enriched! Anything with the words ‘enriched’ is not a good choice for arthritis.

4. Sugar! Most arthritic symptoms are associated with high amounts of sugar.

5. Stay away from dairy products. If you go with dairy products; go organic. The hormones that have changed the dairy industry have also contributed to the arthritis cases.

6. Fresh fruits and raw vegetables! These water-soluble fiber foods are great for arthritis sufferers.

7. Protein! Eat protein from any lean meat, eggs, beans, grains and nuts.

8. Water! Drink 8-10 glasses of water each and every day! This is extremely important for curing arthritis.

9. Fresh! Stay away from fast foods and processed foods that contain numerous preservatives and additives.

10. Spoil in Weeks! The best foods are always fresh and raw. Eat foods that will spoil after a couple of weeks.

Is There More?

What supplements will save me from pain? What vitamins does my body lack? What breathing exercises (you can do at work) will blast oxygen to my joints. Why does your body need a toxin flush? What foods should you eat and NOT eat? What herbs have helped millions of sufferers? And what can we learn from a deer about arthritis and rebuilding joint cartilage?

If you are serious about a natural arthritis cure, that will save you from the medication and the surgery, please check out our Arthritis Natural Treatment Report that gives a step-by-step remedy that lasts a few weeks and is guaranteed to show results. You can start your treatment today by visiting our safe and secure website.

In treating your rheumatoid arthritis it is important to check with your health practitioner concerning the very best methods to help your condition. Medicine, injections and surgery should be thoroughly considered before taking any of them. But if for whatever reason, you opt not to go for medicine and the probable surgery, there are methods for natural arthritis discomfort alleviation.

Familiarity and understanding of your own kind of arthritis are necessary to successfully move towards a painless life. There are books that outline varied natural cures of rheumatoid arthritis, from the traditional practices, lifestyle change and diet, simple exercises to the more recent diet supplements.

At the onset of your arthritic condition, a diagnosis is critical to select the acupuncture points that has got to be manipulated if you should choose acupuncture to alleviate metastatic inflammation discomfort. Severe cases will take multiple treatment sessions while a 5 to thirty-minute session could relieve the symptoms at first felt in the beginning stages of any arthritic condition.

One weird natural arthritis discomfort alleviation is the utilization of bee or snake venom. Care ought to be taken in considering this sort of pain alleviation treatment because there have been no scientific evidence to support its efficacy. This might just turn out to be threatening in situations where there’s a serious risk of allergic reactions which in most cases is deadly.

The most obvious natural rheumatoid arthritis pain alleviation is weight control. For any patient, losing those extra pounds could help ease the pressure put in your joints which lessens the friction between the bones that causes pain. Many folks may not be conscious of just how advantageous this strategy is but it’s the simplest there is.

correct diet which contributes to a weight-loss programme among osseous rheumatism patients should also be properly considered because there are certain food chemicals which is useful for one and will be aggravating for the other. It is important what sort of arthritis you have for you to eat the right food. But typically, natural osseous rheumatism discomfort alleviation through food is straightforward to do. Dairy foods like milk and cheese should be low fat to help minimise soreness. A lean cut of beef also works in the same way.
topical pain relief

diet additions are the best known natural metastatic inflammation discomfort alleviation agents because they have no side effects and at the same time replenish the lost liquid in the cartilage that promote the improvement of the joint’s capability to absorb shock and thereby reduce discomfort. Chemicals that are common in diet additions are chrondroitin, glucosamine, glutamic acid, glutamine, glutoronic acid, glycine and praline. These natural chemicals are useful in drawing liquid back to the cartilage to restore the joint’s mobility. More healthy nutritional supplements should be freed from sugar, salt, shellfish and gluten.

The most evident natural arthritis pain alleviation is weight control. For any patient, losing those extra pounds could help ease the pressure put in your joints which lessens the friction between the bones that causes pain. Many people may not be mindful of just how beneficial this method is but it is the simplest there is.

Do you suffer from pain in your joints? Joint pain does not just attack the elderly. Men and women, young and old, even children can suffer from pain in the joints, also termed as arthritis (inflammation of the joints), muscle pain, and bursitis (painful inflammation). While creams, lotions, and other off-the-shelve products may help temporarily, Herbalife Joint Support-Glucosamine with Herbs can help by building healthy cartilage to cushion joints and enhance joint health. This scientific formula aids in reducing the discomfort in the joints and muscles.

Regardless of the cause, joint pain can be unbearable and finding the cause and the solution is the main goal. There are a number of factors that can contribute to joint pain.

Rheumatoid arthritis – an autoimmune disorder causing pain in the joints as well as stiffness and swelling when the fluid enters the joint and it becomes puffy. Redness and warmth where the joints become warm to touch can also occur.

Osteoarthritis – bone spurs and degeneration of joint cartilage. Also termed as “wear and tear” arthritis. Osteoarthritis is common as we age attacking the joints with symptoms of joint pain and stiffness. Symptoms can affect the joints of the hands, wrists, neck, hips, and back. Obesity and old injuries are also contributing factors.

Bursitis – inflammation of the bursae (fluid-filled sacs that cushion and pad bony prominences). This condition is usually caused by repetitive motion or sudden injury. Age does play a role since as the tendons age they are easier to tear and less able to tolerate stress. High risk activities such as vigorous sports or housework, i.e. painting, shoveling, etc. can be contributing factors. Incorrect posture and not stretching before exercise can lead to bursitis.

The cause of the above conditions can vary from overuse, strains or sprains, injury (fracture) just to name a few.

Treatment Alternatives

In addition to trying warm baths, massage, and anti-inflammatory medications, you should consider Herbalife Joint Support-Glucosamine with Herbs. This blend of glucosamine and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), as well as the beneficial herbs turmeric and boswelia, and the enzyme bromelain. This combination of nutrients help protect joints against the wear-and-tear that joints endure.

The key ingredients in Herbalife Joint Support; MSM, a sulfur compound, turmeric and boswelia not only enhance flexibility and reduce discomfort, but it may help improve tired aching muscles after working out.

Eliminate the need for messy creams, lotions, and expensive over-the-counter remedies and try the results proven Herbalife Joint Support to relieve the discomforts associated with joint pain. If you take paracetemol or an anti-inflammatory drug when you suffer from pain, you’re not alone. A 2005 study, reported in the American Journal of Therapy, showed paracetemol was the most acceptable form of analgesic drug for two-thirds of patients with osteoarthritis pain.

Another study on behalf of the International Arthritis Action Group, found 47 percent of Australians in pain do not use medication because they’re worried about side effects, or feel they don’t know enough about the risks and benefits of treatment. Some do try medication but if it doesn’t work they’re reluctant to discuss an alternative with their GP or specialist. Often they give up searching for help and assume they have to live with soreness and pain. Not so.

Paracetemol may be effective for a first line of defence, but for long term relief it may be worth considering these 7 natural food and supplement options.

OMEGA 3 FISH OIL.

Fish oils are derived from deep sea fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies and tuna. They provide a rich source of the omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. According to Dr Ronald Klatz, president of American Academy of Anti-aging Medicine, omega 3s are excellent anti inflammatories, which may be beneficial in the pain relief of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis.

Omega 3 fatty acids may also be taken in capsule form and can be beneficial when combined with glucosamine sulfate. One helps to build and support cartilage, the other works to ease inflammation.

COOKED VEGETABLES AND OLIVE OIL.

A diet loaded with cooked vegetables and olive oil, may help reduce the pain, swelling and discomfort of rheumatoid arthritis, according to a study from Harvard School of Public Health and reported in American School of Clinical Nutrition.

Your body makes bad prostoglandins that cause swelling and pain and good prostoglandins that prevent swelling and pain. Aspirin and other arthritis pain medicines contain drugs that block the bad prostoglandins.

Cooked vegetables and olive oils contain polyunsaturated and monounsaturated oils that are used by your body to make the good prostoglandins that block pain and swelling. They are also loaded with antioxidants.

ASHWAGHANDA ROOT.

This herb is used extensively in Ayurveda, the traditional medicine of India. It stimulates immunity and as an antioxidant, reduces cell damaging free radicals.

Its anti inflammatory properties have been shown to be helpful for the pain of arthritis.

LEMON BALM.

An important antioxidant containing a high concentration of phenols, chemicals that fight cell damaging toxins. It can help decrease the pain of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

EVENING PRIMROSE OIL.

The active ingredient in this plant is gamma linoleic acid [GLA] an omega 6 fatty acid. Supplementing with evening primrose oil may help in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis pain. Taken by many women to relieve period pain, it could also cut the chances of women with breast cancer having a relapse, according to an American study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

SULPHUR RICH FOODS.

Sulphur is vital for the repair and rebuilding of bones, cartilage and connective tissue. Sulphur rich foods include cabbage, onion, broccoli, garlic, leak and eggs.

Sulphur can be taken in supplement form as MSM {Methyl sulfonyl methane} and is often included in formulas that include glucosamine and chondroitin. According to Dr Ronald M. Lawrence, of the UCLA School of Medicine and Founding Member of the American Association for the Study of Pain, people with joint issues often lack the proper amount of sulphur to let the body heal itself.

WILLOW BARK.

White willow bark is a natural aspirin. According to naturopath Ron Gellatley, it reduces swelling and pain without any side effects. Try drinking away stiffness and pain with a cup of hot willow bark tea. To brew the tea, add one teaspoon of dried willow bark to a cup of boiled water. Steep for 5 minutes, then strain before drinking.

Arthritis is the swelling of the joints. This is a rather common disease that can affect any age group. There are over 100 types of arthritis with differing causes, symptoms and treatments. Let’s take a closer look at the common types, symptoms and treatment of arthritis.

Of the different types of arthritis osteoarthritis, rheumatoid and gout are the most common. Osteoarthritis is caused by the wearing of the cartilage layer between bones and is most difficult to treat.

Gout is due to accumulation and formulation of monosodium urate crystals or MSU crystals. This causes inflammation and pain in the joints, typically the big toes. The damage caused by gout is not limited to the joints but can spread to the other body parts such as kidney as well.

Rheumatoid is due to disorder of body’s immune system. All the joints in the body are susceptible to rheumatoid. There is no permanent treatment of rheumatoid but some medications, healthy diet and exercise can be of help.

The common symptoms of arthritis include pain, swelling, tenderness and feeling of warmth. The different types of arthritis have their own individual characteristics and symptoms as well. For example osteoarthritis and gout commonly affect the weight bearing joints and big toes. Rheumatoid can affect any joint but shows symmetry, i.e. if the left joint is affected the right would be as well.

Some of the common causes responsible for or increasing the chances of, arthritis are age, obesity, genetic, immunological or hormonal reasons, viral or bacterial infections, nutritional deficiencies, harmful work habits etc.

The diagnosis tools used before arthritis treatment may involve checking medical history, physical examination, x-ray, CT scan, MRI etc.

The various types of remedies for arthritis include home made arthritic treatment, preventive measures, special exercises, medicinal remedies and surgical treatment for arthritis as well.

The home made treatment for arthritis may include hot and cold therapy for pain relief and for loosening the stiffness of the joints, healthy diet and weight loss. Taking proper rest and avoiding activities that put pressure on the joints, stretching exercises etc can help in arthritis treatment. Specialized exercises that strengthen the muscles without putting stress on joints, such as swimming are also effective in treatment for arthritis.

Medicinal treatment for arthritis may include pain relief creams or drugs and NSAID for reducing inflammation. Corticosteroids help reduce the immune system activities and thus can help in rheumatoid arthritis treatment. There are also several dietary supplement medicines such as flexeze fortify that can help promote the cartilage building and help in arthritis treatment in general.

The surgical treatment for arthritis may involve removal of damaged cartilage tissues, shaping or reshaping of bones that may involve bone grafting or use of artificial material as well. In extreme cases entire joint can be removed as well.

Overall although it’s not a simple disease, there are various remedies and treatment for arthritis that can help an arthritis patient live a full and happy life.

Natural Remedies For Arthritis Pain

Arthritis pain can be experienced whenever a stiff or swollen joint is used. There are more than 100 different types of medical conditions that can affect your joints; it’ll be difficult to treat your condition effectively unless you know exactly what your diagnosis is; get diagnosed. Sometimes arthritis occurs in the wrist, elbows, shoulders, and jaw but you generally don’t find it there.

Aging cells may be a factor in the development of arthritis. One possible cause of arthritis is the inflammatory response due to the over-reaction of the immune system to an injury or other assault in the body, like an infection. It’s generally thought that inflammation plays a minor role in osteoarthritis and is more likely to be a result, not a cause, of arthritis.

Conventional doctors may suggest the standard protocol for your joint pain; they tell you to take over-the-counter NSAIDS or prescribe COX-2 inhibitors, of which all have side effects.

Nutrition experts say it takes a combination of supplements, that no one supplement can relieve arthritis pain, build cartilage, etc. One natural approach is to consume foods that are known to help relieve arthritis pain or prevent arthritis. One natural treatment method involves avoiding all inflammatory foods.

Changing your diet to predominately fruits, raw veggies, nuts, and seeds like I did, can turn your arthritis pain around almost overnight. More and more doctors are investigating the benefits of alternative therapies and most don’t object to patients trying them. One should not only search for relief of arthritis pain but work on preventing it.

The cause of arthritis (osteoarthritis) and the factors leading to the deterioration of cartilage in osteoarthritis is still not understood. As chondrocytes (the cells that make up cartilage) age, they lose their ability to make repairs and produce more cartilage; this process may play an important role in the development and progression of osteoarthritis.

Nutrition experts say it takes a combination of supplements, that no one supplement can relieve arthritis pain, build cartilage, etc. If your osteoarthritis is affecting your load-bearing joints, keeping your weight within a normal range is important.

Exercise is good for joints affected by osteoarthritis. Keep a bedside basket of arthritic aids for arthritic hands (theraputty, hand grips, Taiji chime balls, etc.) to be used at bedtime or while watching television. Even if you don’t think you can exercise, you can do some movements. At bedtime try putting on a pair of stretch gloves to help reduce the pain and swelling in your fingers for those of you who have arthritic hands.

The pain of rheumatoid arthritis can be crippling, but by making changes to your lifestyle you can manage and even banish the pain forever. Anne Pawley tells how a self help, natural treatment for arthritis changed her life.

An acidic diet, that is any foods not alive, is considered to be inflammatory to the joints. If your osteoarthritis is affecting your load-bearing joints, keeping your weight within a normal range is important. You can make healthy meals using only raw foods. Make highly nutritious raw applesauce using a food processor and put in 3 or 4 cored pesticide-free apples, with the skin on, and mix for a minute; so much better for you than canned, heated, highly processed applesauce. Mix in 1/4 tsp. cinnamon or two tablespoons of freshly ground flaxseed for another boost.

More and more people are turning to fish oil supplements due to the amazing benefits of Omega 3s in curing various ailments and maintaining excellent health and well-being. Also, how is Omega 3 fish oil and inflammation alleviation connected? Find out the expert facts and answers in this article.

Omega 3 fatty acids play a vital role in our health and well-being. Due to their special significance, even leading health regulatory agencies such as the FDA and the American Heart Association have made positive remarks regarding the role and importance of Omega 3s in prevention of heart disease.

The benefits of Omega 3s are not just limited to the heart. They also enhance brain health, boost memory, alleviate the mood, improve skin health and digestive system, combat inflammation, and much more.

In fact, one of the most unique and beneficial features of omega 3 fish oil is its role as an excellent anti-inflammatory natural substance.

Omega 3 fish oil and inflammation

Inflammation is one of the primary causes of internal damage to our body system. It leads to a sub par and a poor health and causes a host of diseases and problems.

Health experts say that inflammation worsens a lot of conditions in the body. As an example, one of the health problems that affect a lot of people due to inflammation is rheumatoid arthritis.

Inflammation also worsens heart disease. The level of inflammation is measured in the blood and that indicates the severity of the heart disease symptoms. Another health problem that can be associated with inflammation is degenerative brain condition.

Thanks to a lot of research that has been conducted, it is now evident that Omega 3 fish oil and inflammation are highly correlated. The two important omega 3 fatty acids — DHA and EPA, play a key role in combating inflammation.

Fish oil is unarguably the best source of Omega 3s, DHA and EPA. The exceptional anti-inflammatory properties of fish oil offer a lot of health benefits for various health problems such as arthritis, osteoporosis, heart disease, pains and aches, etc.

A lot of people are turning to natural alternatives like fish oil for treating various ailments, after coming to know about the many side effects of prescription based anti-inflammatory drugs such as Cox-2 inhibitors.

Home Remedies & Herbal Supplements for Arthritis

Herbal remedies have gained popularity as a natural approach to other arthritis treatments. Herbs are the basis for many traditional medicines.

Home Remedies
Prepare garlic paste and apply the paste on the affected joint; it is an effective herbal remedy for arthritis. Regular consumption of garlic cloves in raw condition reduces the problem of joint pains.
One teaspoon of honey and two teaspoon of lemon juice added in one glass of lukewarm water works well against the pain and swelling of arthritis. This is an efficient home based herbal remedy in controlling the pain of arthritis.
Add two teaspoon of honey and two teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in lukewarm water for regular consumption in the morning. Drinking turmeric powder added lukewarm water helps relieving pain of arthritis.

Herbal Supplement

Shallaki herb [also known as Boswellia serrata] helps in reducing the problem of blood circulation, controls the swelling of joints, and relieves joint pain.
Taking Aswagandha two times per day with ½ glass lukewarm water is an efficient herbal remedy of arthritis. It will surely help improving the condition on regular use for at least 10-15 days at a stretch.
Rheumatil is s natural remedy containing a combination of traditional ayurvedic herbal extracts, effective in reducing joint pain and inflammation caused by arthritis, spondylosis, sports injuries and other joint problems.
Arthrella is a natural remedy for Rheumatoid Arthritis and induces remission. It minimizes joint stiffness and swelling, relieves pain and inflammation of involved joints and protects unaffected joints from succumbing to arthritis

Management of Arthritis
Treatment options vary depending on the type of arthritis and include physical and occupational therapy, lifestyle changes (including exercise and weight control), medications and dietary supplements (symptomatic or targeted at the disease process causing the arthritis). Arthroplasty or joint replacement surgery may be required in eroding forms of arthritis.

Exercise regime
Arthritis experts emphasize that a well-designed exercise program can decrease the pain and stiffness you feel — while increasing your range of motion. Talk to your doctor about the kinds of exercise that best suits your particular needs.
While high impact activities such as running and floor aerobics can increase joint pain, regular gentle exercise (such as swimming, water aerobics and biking) has been shown to reduce or prevent joint pain. Exercise benefits your cartilage too as the action of the joints increases blood flow, which in turn brings nutrients to the joint and removes waste products. Building strong muscles around your joints can help to support them and reduce your chances of injury.

Weight Control
By reducing stress on your joints, controlling your weight helps prevent osteoarthritis of the knees and other weight-bearing joints. And it lessens pain in those who have it. To keep weight off, lose it gradually — no more than two to five pounds per month. Eat fewer calories and exercise more to lose weight.

Heat and Cold
Applying heat or cold to sore joints can temporarily relieve the pain and stiffness of osteoarthritis. Heat helps to relax aching muscles. Cold can numb the area to reduce pain. Ask your doctor or therapist which method is best for you.
Medicines

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – NSAIDs
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – NSAIDs – are widely used anti-inflammatory treatments of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. NSAIDs differ from analgesics in an important aspect: while analgesics treat pain, NSAIDs treat both pain and inflammation. By blocking these actions of prostaglandins along with the inflammatory ones, traditional NSAIDs can lead to an upset stomach and peptic ulcers, or interfere with kidney function, according to Arthritis Today. For many people, NSAIDs are used as anti-inflammatory treatments of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Serious side effects include gastric upset and internal bleeding, so use of NSAIDs requires a doctor’s supervision.

Prescription analgesics / painkillers
Prescription analgesics are one of the many types of medication used to treat arthritis pain. They do not treat inflammation, or the underlying disease condition.
Prescription analgesics are classified as either narcotic or non-narcotic. They may be prescribed along with other types of arthritis medicine. Many doctors have sought to avoid prescribing narcotics for long term treatment due to concerns about drug dependency and addiction. There have also been concerns about side effects such as chronic constipation, dizziness, nausea, and breathing problems sometimes associated with narcotics as well as non-narcotic painkillers.

Disease Modifying Arthritis Drugs (DMARDS) for Rheumatoid Arthritis
For patients that have rheumatoid arthritis who show poor response to NSAIDS, a different class of medication called disease-modifying drugs or DMARDS is available. These drugs differ from each other and from other arthritis medications in their onset of action, method of administration, cost, potential side effects, and the need for monitoring for potential side effects. The severity of the arthritis, previous response to other medications, and history of other health problems will help determine which drug or combination of drugs will

Rheumatoid Arthritis

In Rheumatoid Arthritis the lining of joints or lining of internal organs are inflamed . This disease may be chronic ( lasts for a long time ) or may flare up intermittently. The inflammation of lining of joints causes swelling, pain, redness, stiffness and warmth in the affected region . The cells of inflamed lining release enzymes which may harm the related bone and cartilage. This process may cause deformity of joint, pain and may restrict joint movements. In ayurveda there is very detailed description about Rheumatoid arthritis or “Ama vata”.

Causes

The exact cause of Rheumatoid arthritis is not known. But immunologists have discovered that Rheumatoid Arthritis is an auto immune disease. Some may have a tendency to inherit this disease. The cause of rheumatoid arthritis is very well explained in Ayurveda. The rheumatoid arthritis is caused by formation of “ama ” ( a toxin that is produced by imbalanced body fire ). The toxin ama is carried by imbalanced vata ( one of the three energetic forces ) and reaches the kapha ( one of the three energetic forces ) dominated places like joints, stomach , chest , brain etc. This toxin becomes sticky due to imbalanced doshas and blocks the vital channels which nourish the body.

The sticky toxin ama not only affects the joints but also spreads all over the body . The channels ( channels like arteries, intercellular spaces , pores in cells etc are called srotas ) which allow nutrients to flow through and nourish body tissues , cells get partially blocked. This leads to a decreased supply of nutrients to body tissues and cells . Thus the immunity of the body gets lowered , the appetite reduces , the body becomes weak due to insufficient nourishment of body tissues.

The ama which gets harbored in joints acts like a foreign substance and triggers the immune system. This leads to inflammation of linings of joints .

Formation of Ama

Opposite foods, opposite lifestyles, lowered body fire, sedentary work, over physical exertion which involves lot of joint movements cause indigestion , imbalance of doshas and formation of ama

The Best Supplement For Arthritis

Edit Article |

Posted: May 12, 2010 |Comments: 0

There are many people in the world today who suffer from arthritis. This is not just limited to seniors, but the young as well. So what is arthritis? Arthritis occurs when a joint is swollen or inflamed and difficult to move. The main reason for the onset of arthritis is the lack of certain nutrients from an inadequate diet. The best supplement for arthritis is one that supplies the body with what it lacks.

Stress is also a huge factor. If someone does lots of heavy lifting or runs consistently on hard surfaces this can put lots of stress on the joints and cause wear and tear. This along with an improper diet can cause problems and the body cannot properly repair and heal itself.

The conventional treatments for arthritis are drugs that have anti-inflammatory properties. These may come with certain side effects, however such as kidney failure, liver failure, ulcers and prolonged bleeding. There are others that inhibit the enzyme COX-2. This is enzyme is needed for the production of fatty acids in the body. Lack of it may result in cardiovascular problems.

Many times these drugs are used together, treating the symptoms but never the root cause of the problem. Since they are all toxic, when used together they could create a host of side effects besides what they create individually. Surgery is also used, but by that time the problem is too severe for drugs to be of any use on their own.

A more natural approach would be to give the body what it lacks in terms of proper nutrition. One way to do this is to supplement the diet using fish oils. This can be used along with a vitamin and mineral formula that includes Vitamin D3, Vitamin E and Bromelain.

By giving the body what it needs in terms of proper nutrition, the healing process can begin. There are many natural remedies to choose from. Talk with your doctor before you try any new supplements and as always do your research so that you will know what is right for you.
