Signs of arthritis can start popping up as early as our thirties. At least 14 percent of all Americans have some form of this disease. The biggest heartache of arthritis is that there is no real cure for it. Here are some speedy ways to help relieve pain and release stiff joints.

Since many of the symptoms of lupus and rheumatoid arthritis overlap, it is sometimes difficult to diagnose which disease you have. Some cases of lupus, especially those that effect organs such as the kidneys or lungs, are categorically different than rheumatoid arthritis. However, some cases of lupus produce joint pain quite similar to rheumatoid arthritis.

To correctly diagnose your disorder, use a combination of self-diagnosis and a professional medical opinion. A correct diagnosis is essential, especially since untreated lupus can often lead to other serious conditions such as kidney failure and cancer.

Rheumatoid Arthritis is common, but there are ways to naturally treat Rheumatoid Arthritis. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a condition that affects the joints with inflammation, and is often accompanied with pain and stiffness. Below are some ways to help naturally treat Rheumatoid Arthritis.

• Take Borage Oil in supplemental form daily. Borage Oil contains the Omega 6 Fatty Acid known as GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid). Borage Oil has been proven to be effective in helping to relieve Rheumatoid Arthritis symptoms.
• Exercise regularly, but avoid certain types of exercise. Try to exercise gently, with things like low impact aerobics, swimming, stretching and walking. Often times patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis will feel increased pain initially, but this is normal and will change once your body adjusts. Regular, light exercise will actually help to relieve pain and other symptoms, as well as help to prevent health complications often associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis.
• Look into any possible allergies, especially food allergies such as wheat or milk. Many patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis are actually able to control their disease by eliminating any symptoms triggering foods.
• A cooling treatment may be necessary for inflamed joints. You can make a simple ice pack with a hand towel and some ice from your ice tray. Crushed ice works best. Wrap up carefully and place on sore inflamed joints.
• Eat plenty of oily fish and shellfish, for their omega-3 fatty acids. Eat sweet

The Great Physician’s Rx for Arthritis (Great Physician’s Rx Series)

Like age, arthritis has a way of creeping up on you until one morning, that occasional stiffness in the knee or soreness in the hands turns into “That hurts!” type of pain. Prolonged physical activity only prolongs the soreness.

Arthritis is a general medical term that refers to inflammation of the joints. The word “arthritis” is a blend of the Greek words “arthron” for joint and “itis” for inflammation. Frequent cracking of the joints and early morning stiffness are common symptoms of osteoarthritis, even during pain-free periods. Some will joke that they can tell a weather change is ahead when their knees act up, but that’s because painful joints can be sensitive to a falling of barometric pressure, which signals rain in the forecast.

Arthritis often begins subtly with a little ache and stiffness in the knees or shoulders. Or it may herald its arrival with sharp pain and swollen, tender joints. Arthritis takes center stage, however, when you feel as stiff as a board when you pull yourself out of bed in the morning. Stiff spines, creaky necks, and balky backs can zap the life out of even the most optimistic individuals. Those with arthritic hands and wrists find it painful to type or even use a computer mouse, while some with arthritic knees shuffle around with pain as their constant companion. Arthritic hips not also restrict mobility but impact a couple’s love life since arthritic hip pain can make sexual relations painful, particularly for women. No matter how you cope or make lifestyle adjustments, arthritis is a pain to live with.

In The Great Physician’s Rx for Arthritis, Jordan Rubin, along with Joseph Brasco, MD,  recommends a total lifestyle program for the health of the body, mind, and spirit that’s much more effective than sleeping on a bed of magnets each night, and it’s based on the seven keys to unlock your God-given health potential found in his foundational book The Great Physician’s Rx for Health and Wellness.

Arthritis Cures

About the Author

Ken Charles suffered with acute back pain and arthritis for over 40 years – but not any more. He discovered his own solution and is now virtually pain-free. See how he found his own Cure for Arthritis

(ArticlesBase SC #966589)

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/Arthritis Cures

Many people find they cannot tolerate the pain of arthritis without the use of painkillers. Those most commonly used are anti-inflammatories and narcotics. Regular, sustained use of these drugs can have serious side effects and can be potentially fatal.

The US Food and Drug Agency shows some alarming statistics on its website, concerning the severity and frequency of heart attacks and strokes, brought on by the use of Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). Elderly people (who tend to be the most sufferers from arthritis) particularly those with heart or blood pressure problems are at high risk. In many cases, these attacks are fatal.

‘Based on the currently available data, FDA has concluded that an increased risk of serious adverse cardiovascular events appears to be a class effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)’

Codeine is another painkiller in common use. This is a narcotic and therefore addictive and is closely related to morphine and heroin. It can also cause drowsiness and constipation.

With all these dangers associated with common over-the-counter painkillers, it is most advisable to find alternative treatments for arthritis to get genuine and lasting relief from the debilitating pain of arthritis and joint pains. There are various ways to find a solution to this problem which affects so many people worldwide.

Plan Your Diet to Beat the Pain.

Some foods are recognised as being bad for arthritis sufferers, while others can be very beneficial. A balanced diet is of immense importance in maintaining a healthy body and can help to minimise the effects of arthritis. The World Health Organisation has detailed guidance on what constitutes a balanced diet, on its website.

Exercise.

Even the thought of exercising can be intimidating for someone who is already in pain but if joints are not moved gently every day, the stiffness and pain will just get worse. The muscles, tendons and ligaments supporting the joints will gradually get weaker and movement will become even more painful.

Swimming, cycling and walking are all excellent for improving mobility, without causing harmful impact on joints. This applies to knees and hips in particular. Swimming, or water aerobics are excellent, because the water supports you and makes movement much easier.

Weight Loss.

Being overweight is particularly bad for arthritis sufferers because it puts additional strain on parts of the body which are already weak and damaged. Even worse, it increases the dangers of heart attacks, strokes and diabetes. A combination of sensible, balanced diet and gentle, regular exercise will benefit your all round health as well as your arthritis.

Supplements.

Some useful supplements are available, to provide help in strengthening joints and easing pain and stiffness. Glucosamine (sometimes combined with Chondroitin) is thought to help repair damaged cartilage: Cider Vinegar and honey is believed to help flush away acid deposits in arthritic joints: and studies have shown that Tart Cherries can provide arthritis relief.

Are you suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and now you want to know what are the causes of such disease? Well, you will be surprised to know that the causes of rheumatoid arthritis remain to be unknown. But it was found out by researchers that autoimmunity plays a vital role in both its chronicity and progression. Rheumatoid arthritis is deemed as a systemic autoimmune disease.

A lot of studies on the causes of rheumatoid arthritis were already done in the past years. But then, they are still unknown up to this point.

Researchers considered infectious agents such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi as possible causes of rheumatoid arthritis. But then none of the infectious agents has been proven a cause.

Researchers also considered genetics. They studied if there is tendency to develop rheumatoid arthritis because of genetics. And yet, they failed to prove that rheumatoid arthritis has something to do with genetics.

Certain infections or factors in the environment were also considered by the researchers. These infections or factors in the environment were thought to be possibly causes of rheumatoid arthritis but then were not also proven to be really causes of such disease.

What was only made clear to people was that rheumatoid arthritis can affect anyone and everyone. And its effects to people can be eliminated with help of some medicines and natural remedies such as high fiber foods, Flavonoid rich foods, fruits and vegetable juices. They can help minimize the effects of joint damage and even minimize destruction to the joints.

Cherries are Flavonoid rich foods, they can help. Apples, oranges, grapes, and papaya are the fruits that can also help. And carrot juice, beet juice and cucumber juice are the vegetable juices which can also be helpful. Those who suffer from arthritis can try any of these natural remedies mentioned.

Arthritis is defined as a joint disorder that features inflammation. The area of the body where two different bones meet is called the joint. A joint functions to move the body parts connected by its bones.

Literally, arthritis means “inflammation of one or more joints”. The illness comes in many forms, with each form having a peculiar cause.

The most common form is osteoarthritis or simply OA. Other arthritis forms include autoimmune diseases such as psoriatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis wherein the body attacks itself. Caused by a joint infection is another form of arthritis called septic arthritis.

Another form is gouty arthritis which is brought about by the depositions of uric acid crystals in the joint resulting further to inflammation. Pseudogout is a very rare type of gout which is brought about by the formation of rhomboid crystals of calcium pyrophosphate.

All forms of arthritis are accompanied by pain. Pain occurring in the joints is called arthralagia.

Arthritis pain patterns may vary depending on what type of arthritis is present and the location in the body where the illness is being experienced. For instance, arthritis pain brought about by rheumatoid arthritis is generally worse during the mornings and most frequently accompanied with stiffness.

During its early stages, the patients affected by the ailment will often show no symptoms after a morning shower. Both in children and in aged patients, arthritis pain may not be the presenting feature. For the aged patients, they only tend to move less, while infant patients refuse to use the affected limbs.

There is no single treatment that can be applied for everyone affected with arthritis. Seeking medical help is necessary. The doctor will determine what type of arthritis is present and will be developing a management plan specifically designed to reduce the particular pain and improve the function of the joints. There are a number of treatments that can provide short-term relief for arthritis pain.

First thing to do is to manage your arthritis pain. There are forms of arthritis which are classified as chronic diseases. These types may last a lifetime and the pain could be really distressing since it affects the patients on many levels. An important factor in controlling the ailment and ensuring a good quality of life is learning how to manage pain over the long term.

Being continually sought are better ways to control pain. With the goal of relieving pain, arthritis patients may try different ways of relieving pain techniques. From these, the best technique may be identified. The success or failure of each form of therapy may vary from person to person. What could have worked for one person may not work for another person.

Osteoarthritis sufferers may have very little inflammation. Acetaminophen is a suggested pain reliever. On the other hand, rheumatoid arthritis patients may experience pain that is caused by inflammation. Suggested medications for rheumatoid arthritis patients are aspirin or other forms of NSAIDS. To allow the joints to rest, it could be helpful to use a splint or a base.

Free Medicine For the Mind – Zen Meditation

By: Jaso Nybac

About the Author

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/Free Medicine For the Mind – Zen Meditation

“Perfect,” I said. “You can spend a lifetime learning all the subtleties about Zen meditation, but a beginner can learn how to do it in five minutes.”
Zen means simple and Zen meditation is the simplest form of meditation. Forest Zen is the simplest path of all the paths to Zen and that is the path of the Zen Forest.

“How do you meditate, here?” I asked on my first visit to the Zen Forest.
The monk who created the Zen retreat gave me a blank look.
“I’ve been taught different ways,” I said. “Some say to sit like this, hold your hands like that, with your fingertips touching and the tip of your tongue at the roof of your mouth.”

He laughed very hard and said, “That’s the way we teach beginners. It’s like telling a little kid that Santa Claus is real. Are you going to tell a very young person who believes in Santa Claus that Santa Claus isn’t real?”
“People new to meditation need to believe things like that will help them do it right,” he said.
“People new to vegetarianism like vegetable dishes that look and taste like chicken, fish, hamburgers, steak…. You can make mock duck, mock goose, mock chicken, and so on. Later, it isn’t necessary.”

A Step-By-Step Guide To Sitting Meditation

The goal is to still. How still? As still as the dead.
Meditation has been described as practicing being dead.

Step One: Sit on the floor in the full lotus position.

If you cannot sit in the full lotus position, don’t worry. Sit in the half lotus position.
If you cannot sit in the half lotus position, don’t worry. Sit cross-legged.
If you cannot sit cross-legged, don’t worry.
If you cannot sit on the floor, sit on a chair.

Most people sit on a pillow, on a mat, and use cushions to prop up their legs. Some use a blanket to hold their hands comfortably in their laps.

If you choose to sit on a chair, sit on the front edge, keeping your back straight. If you cannot sit on a chair without leaning back for support, try meditating in a Muskoka chair. Use the cushions to get into a comfortable position so you don’t have to move for twenty minutes or so.

Step Two: Keep your eyes open and look at the floor about three feet in front of you.

Step Three: Try to keep your back straight. If you cannot find a way to sit comfortably on the floor, try leaning against a wall.

Step Four: Your left hand should rest in the cup of your right hand and your thumbs should touch lightly.

Step Five: Focus on your breath. Pay attention to your breathing.

Step Six: Count breaths. Breathe in and count “one” as you exhale. Breathe in and count “two” as you exhale.

Step Seven: Count to ten, breathing in and out, and start over again.

Step Eight: Thoughts arise naturally during meditation. Try not to follow your thoughts. Let them come and go. Focus on your breathing. Don’t engage with your thoughts. Watch them come and go as though you are watching a movie.

Step Nine: After meditating, massage your sore muscles and then do some exercises to get your energy going again.

Step Ten: This step is for advanced meditators. You don’t have to count your breaths. Just follow your breath as it goes in and out.

Put your awareness at the tip of your nose or on your belly. Stay aware of your breathing.

When we are aware that we are breathing, the mind and the body are one, and monkey mind ends. We’re not thinking about the future or the past – just the present moment.

If you are a very experienced meditator, focus on your true nature.

The Goal of Meditation

The goal of meditation is to still the mind. The mind is like a cup of water from the pond. We are sitting in Muskoka chairs, on the new field stone patio in front of the dining hall attached to the zendo, looking at the creek the monk turned into a pond at the Zen Forest.

“How many thoughts do we have each day?” Thay asks me.
“I studied with Deepak Chopra last summer and he quoted Wayne Dyer saying we have sixty thousand thoughts a day,” I say.
“Sixty thousand, they say?” the monk laughs. “Oh really? We have monkey mind, with six hundred thousand thoughts per day. Those are the big ones. Who knows how many small ones we have. They are like waves and ripples on the ocean and on a pond.
“Imagine taking a glass of water from the pond,” he says. “That glass of water from the pond may be muddy and cloudy.
“Let it settle.”
“The mud is heaviest and sinks to the bottom. Other impurities may settle on the mud. At the top is the purest water.”
“If you’re smart, you’ll siphon off that water.”
“That’s your mind and those are your thoughts.”
“Let the heavy thoughts sink to the bottom.”
“Siphon off the water at the top. That’s wise.”
“Meditation does for the mind what time and gravity does for the pond water.”
“Show me the siphon,” I say.
The monk says, “I can show you by teaching

A 2008 Association for Pet Obesity Prevention survey indicated that over 40 percent of dogs are now estimated to be obese. Exercise is proven to help prevent pet obesity just as much as a healthy and balanced diet. But what happens to those dogs that can’t exercise because they are too overweight and their joints ache with strenuous activity? Now add an ineffective diet to the mix and it can be a dangerous downward spiral for the family dog.

In many cases dogs gain weight because they suffer from dog arthritis and therefore lose the desire to exercise and enjoy recreational activities. Twenty percent of America’s family pets suffer from arthritis and a rapidly increasing number of dog owners are turning to FlexPet with CM8TM for dog joint pain relief and dog arthritis treatment for pet arthritis that are a result of pet obesity.

“Diet alone won’t help return your dog to health because obesity can severely cause dog joint pain and damage the joint cartilage from carrying too much weight,” said Tamer Elsafy, CEO and founder of Flexcin. “What’s needed is a safe pet arthritis supplement and dog arthritis treatment that can act like WD-40 for joints as well as repair the damaged cartilage and return your dog to its healthy, happy self.”

FlexPet with CM8 is manufactured by Flexcin International, Inc., the only provider of dog arthritis treatment natural supplements made with CM8. Not available in other pet supplements, cetyl myristoleate is an ingredient clinically proven to promote optimal joint health in dogs by helping to stimulate the lubricating fluid in the joints, support stronger cartilage reduce pet arthritis and increase total mobility.

Acupuncture can result in powerful arthritis pain relief and it can provide an alternative arthritis remedy for many pain sufferers. Arthritis treatment by acupuncture is described below. Acupuncture claims good results in the treatment of arthritis pain. Arthritis pain relief and joint pain relief are among the most common reasons for using acupuncture in Western countries. Many people who suffer from osteoathritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, degenerative arthritis and gout seek pain relief from acupuncture – either alongside, or instead of, their arthritis medication or other arthritis treatment.

Getting through the day and living with arthritis pain can be a hard and heartbreaking task for you and the people around you. However, there are some simple arthritis pain relief techniques that you could try to incorporate into your daily life. If you find yourself working on a certain task or tasks to much, stop and allow for some relaxation, if you push yourself past your limit, you may hinder any kind of arthritis pain relief. Exercise may seem like a scary thought, when in reality by regular, slow and gentle movements you can increase muscle tone, which improves strength and flexibility, giving you some much needed arthritis pain relief. Arthritis pain has never been easy to treat and arthritis symptoms have often been managed by the use of possibly toxic or unpalatable arthritis medication.

The first time it worked wonderfully and I was raving about it, but the second time it made both my knees swell up like balloons and thump with pain. I put flannels soaked in cider apple vinegar on my knees, holding them in place with cling film: alas! the pain remained. I even booked a ‘test drive’ on a vibrating bed. I found the vibrating noise disturbing and the vibrations had no effect on the pain in my cramp ridden leg, even when the salesman increased the frequency in a concentrated way on the bottom of my foot.

Arthritis, or “joint inflammation” is one of the most common ailments today that can cause excruciating pain in the body. It affects the muscles and specifically the place where two or more bones meet, ie the joint, such as the hip or knee. Arthritis signs and symptoms include joint pain, swelling, stiffness, weakness, deformities, inflammation, and limited movement of joints, which can interfere with the most basic daily tasks such as walking, climbing steps, opening bottles, or brushing your teeth. Using herbs and natural products are a great way to get arthritis pain relief, and are usually safer, with fewer side effects than medication. Try these unconventional forms of arthritis relief and treat the pain naturally. As always, make sure to consult with a health care professional. For my birthday a good friend paid for a treatment of ‘Daoyin Tao’. The face, head and neck massage made me feel much more relaxed and it helped me release much of my stress. I also had a ‘Bowen Treatment’ on my whole body and knees.

Arthritis- Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis affecting the knee. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative process in which the joint cartilage gradually wears away, and usually affects middle-aged or older. You can be the result of excessive force on the joint such as repeated injury or being overweight.

Rheumatoid arthritis can also affect the knees by causing the joint to become inflamed and destroying the knee cartilage. Compared with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis tends to affect younger people.

If you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, pain is probably your primary interest. This degenerative disease can be extremely painful and uncomfortable when up torches. Basically, rheumatoid arthritis typically affects the joints around the ankles, wrists, fingers and hands.

The tissue surrounding the joint, called synovial fluid, allows the smooth movement between bones. Rheumatoid arthritis develops when this fluid becomes damaged, causing inflammation, pain and swelling of the joints. This inflammation can eventually destroy the body, eating away at cartilage and bone.

Nobody knows what triggers the inflammation, but is thought to be an autoimmune disease where the immune system creates antibodies that fight against the tissues of the body. It is unclear why this occurs, but it is a common disease that affects millions of people and tends to run in families. It can develop at any age but usually starts in the second part of middle age.

Arthritis is not something that goes away on its own. You should never ignore any drastic change in your body, especially one that can potentially cripple you. Although we don’t know rheumatoid arthritis causes, there are some generalizations that can be made about people suffering at certain levels of the condition. Tests can be done to determine what levels of certain chemicals you have that indicate the presence of early rheumatoid arthritis. Recent studies have indicated that treating this aggressively helps the patient overall.

What Chemicals Do They Test For?

When a person has early rheumatoid arthritis, their bodies tend to put out higher amounts of certain chemicals. These chemicals do not seem to be the cause of early rheumatoid arthritis or create any pain. These chemicals include the protein Interluekin 15 (IL 15), Inerluekin 6, B cells (a kind of white blood cell), blood fats (LDL is especially looked at) and lysozomes (a kind of enzyme).

All kinds of rheumatoid arthritis, including early rheumatoid arthritis, is thought to be an autoimmune disease, which is probably why the body puts out these chemicals because it considers itself under attack. Early rheumatoid arthritis usually happens in women more than men.

Kinds Of Aggressive Treatments

A Dutch study called PROMPT treated 110 patients with early rheumatoid arthritis with a strong drug called methotrexate (a cancer drug) for one year. X rays showed that they had less damage to their joints than people with early rheumatoid arthritis who took a placebo. They also still had less damage after 30 months. However, methotrexate has very harsh side effects, which is the reason why the treatment is described as “aggressive”.

Another study, called BeST (misspelled on purpose), has since backed up PROMPT. It tracked patients with early rheumatoid arthritis for two years who were taking a combination of methotrexate and Remicade (an anti-inflammatory). They were 55% less hampered by their early rheumatoid arthritis than those who took a placebo.

However, many patients with early rheumatoid arthritis are not eager to through the pain and expense of aggressive early treatment (and rightly so). The bottom line seems to be that each early rheumatoid arthritis case needs their treatment tailored to them as soon as possible. But, no matter how you choose to treat it, you can’t just ignore your pain, swelling and stiffness and hope it will just go away. That is merely a prescription to guarantee that it will get worse.

Dogs are living longer and longer these days.  With better vet care and better food, it seems that our dogs are naturally living longer lives.  But with those longer lives can come some almost inevitable aches and pains.  Your senior dog may suffer from some problems associated with growing older.  Fortunately, there are some holistic approaches to helping him enjoy his golden years.

You should start by making sure that your senior dog is eating the right diet for his age.  There are some foods marketed specifically for older dogs but these are not always the best choice.  Some of them are geared toward keeping the weight off older dogs and, to be honest, sometimes an older dog needs to gain weight instead of worry about losing it.  Don’t try to keep your older dog too thin.

There is no reason to cut down on your older dog’s protein intake unless he has a specific kidney problem.  At one time it was thought that senior dogs could not handle the same levels of protein as younger dogs but this has been shown to be untrue.  You can continue to feed your older dog the same protein level as when he was younger unless he has a kidney problem.

Whatever you feed your dog you should make sure that it is a food of high quality that is meeting all of his nutritional needs.  Some people will cook for their senior dogs to make meals more appealing.  This is fine as long as you make sure your dog is getting all of the nutrients he needs.

Older dogs often experience a dulling of their senses.  They do not smell things as keenly, see as well or even taste things as strongly as younger dogs.  Anything you can do to make their meals tastier may encourage them to eat more.  If you call your older dog and he doesn’t come, don’t assume that he doesn’t want his dinner.  He may not have heard you.

Your older dog will need to have a senior dog check-up when he sees your veterinarian about once a year starting when he’s about seven years old.  Your vet can perform some tests and take a complete blood panel to check your dog for any potential health problems.  These check-ups are a good way to prevent small problems from escalating into something major.

You should also ask your veterinarian to check your older dog’s teeth.  Many times an older dog will seem to lose his appetite and stop eating.  Your dog may lose weight and start to decline.  This is often attributed to simply being “old.”  However, it’s often due to having teeth problems.  Your dog may have a bad tooth that needs to be removed. Once the tooth is removed your dog will likely regain his appetite, start eating again and regain lost weight. Your dog may have several more healthy years to live if you will simply have his teeth checked.  One good sign that your dog may be having dental problems is very bad breath.  If your dog is refusing food or barely eating and he has bad breath you should definitely take him to the vet for a dental check-up.  It could save your dog’s life.

Many senior dogs can begin to slow down due to the aches and pains that come with arthritis.  Arthritis usually occurs when the lubricants and cartilage between joints starts breaking down.  Some arthritis is often quite normal for many dogs.  It can be much worse if your dog has any degree of hip dysplasia or other joint problems.

Your vet can often give your dog some pain medication for serious pain associated with arthritis.  However, for mild pain and discomfort there are many good joint supplements.  Glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, SAM-e and others have all been recommended to help with arthritis, hip dysplasia and joint discomfort.  Many people also use supplements with shark cartilage in them for arthritis.  Supplements containing New Zealand green-lipped mussels have also been recommended for arthritis and joint pain.

There are a number of very good products for senior dogs to help their mobility and give your senior dog a “lift.”  You can ask your vet to suggest something for your dog, talk to friends or breeders, or browse a good selection of supplements or senior dog products to make a selection.

You can also make things easier for your older dog by giving him soft, warm places to sleep.  A good orthopedic bed is a great choice but your older dog may also like to have a soft place to sleep in various rooms.  Try placing some soft rugs or bathroom mats in different rooms where your dog likes to snooze.  You may want to place a covered heating pad on his sleeping spots if they are in drafty places.

If your dog is beginning to stumble because of mobility problems or because he doesn’t see as well as he once did, make sure you tack down any area rugs or remove them.  This should help your dog keep his balance better.

There are many good ways to help your older

Arthritis affects many people all over the world in the US alone over twenty million Americans are reported that are afflicted with this debilitating disease. Arthritis is the general condition involving the damage of the joints in the body. There are many forms of arthritis and one of the most common forms of arthritis is rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory form of arthritis that causes severe pain, stiffness, swelling, and inflammation. In rheumatoid arthritis, the autoimmune system of the body mistakenly attacks the tissues of the body causing the lining of the joints to swell, that can result in pain, swelling, and eventually become deformed. One characteristic of the disease is that it is symmetrical in nature, meaning both parts of the body such as the wrist, knees, elbows, and hips can be attacked at the same time and pain is felt on both sides of the body.

Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms can even bring daily activities such a burden like walking or holding a pen. The symptoms maybe chronic or it could be a transient disease. When the joints are inflame this is the active stage of the disease, which is also called flare ups or flares, the inactive stage is called the remission stage and this can be due to medication or treatment, and it can last for weeks, months or even years depending on the management and the severity of the disease.

The remission of the disease varies from person to person, though the reason for the recurrence is still unknown patients are given some pointers on how to manage the disease and how to spot the early onset of the rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms may include general feeling of fatigue, malaise, fever, loss of appetite, muscle and joint pain and stiffness, which is usually felt during the morning after waking up; you feel stiff all over and have a hard time to move because of the pain. This can also be felt during prolong inactivity, the muscles becomes stiff and harden and movement is difficult. During this episode, the affected areas of the body are inflamed, swollen and warm, and the skin around the area is red and tender to the touch.

At the early onset rheumatoid arthritis only affects the small joints of the body, the fingers, wrist, ankles and feet. As the disease progresses large part of the joints are affected especially those that are weight bearing joints such as the hips, knees, elbows, and shoulders could be affected. Deformity is a common sight for people who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis this is due to the rheumatoid nodules that sprouts around the bones, bones become brittle and eventually loss its function.

As of this date there are no known cure for rheumatoid arthritis, the treatment that is available right now aims to slow down the bone degeneration and maximize joint function, reduce the pain, swelling, and inflammation. If you are looking for treatment for canine arthritis you have to make a decision as to whether you want to use traditional medicines, over the counter medications, or home remedies. All three can be effective ways to reduce your dog’s pain and discomfort. Imagine being able to help your best friend live a more full and quality filled life.

I am sure you already know this but arthritis can be very painful. Did you know, however, that 55% of all dogs afflicted with arthritis in the United States do not get any treatment for canine arthritis?

Now I will get straight to the point and later introduce you to some links where you can find great home remedies for treatment of canine arthritis and other illnesses and ailments your pet may suffer from over the years.

TREATMENT GOALS

To reduce pain associated with arthritis To improve the function and mobility of the effected joints To encourage repair of the joints if at all possible To prevent further degradation of the joints To slow down the progression of the disease in the joints To increase exercise options in order to reduce weight gain and improve health

As mentioned earlier there are different ways to go about treatment for canine arthritis. Here are some natural treatments that are available at pet stores.

NATURAL TREATMENTS FOR CANINE ARTHRITIS

Glucosamine – Safe for both dogs and cats.  Made from shellfish. The pet’s body produces natural glucosamine but when cartilage damage gets to be too much the pet’s body cannot produce enough. Glucosamine supplements are readily available at pet stores without a prescription.  Some dog foods will contain glucosamine but some studies suggest it will not contain enough. Chondroitin sulfate – Also available as a dietary supplement without a prescription. This product effectively reduces pain but does not lubricate the joints like glucosamine. Omega fatty acids – Used to reduce inflammation. They also work to reduce pain and swelling.

Now to ones most commonly prescribed by your vet for treatment for canine arthritis.

PAIN MEDICATION FROM YOUR VETERINARIAN

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs also called NSAID’S. These are non-narcotic pain relievers. Common NSAID’s used are Rimadyl, Etogesic, Meloxicam, Phenybultazone, Ketoprofen, and Piroxicam. Be careful with NSAID’S because there can be harsh side effects to your pet from using these medications. Your vet will want to closely monitor your dog if they are on these medications.

Now to over the counter treatment for canine arthritis.

DIRECT PAIN MANAGEMENT WITH OVER THE COUNTER MEDICINES

Aspirin – Used for pain relief but be careful as long term use can cause internal bleeding just like in humans. If you decide to use aspirin then use buffered aspirin. Never use ibuprofen or acetaminophen on dogs. Aspirin should never be given to a cat.

The decision for treatment of canine arthritis is yours as it is in your own health decisions.

In this economy nobody can afford to waste money on vet bills. Click on the links in the last paragraph and discover great home remedies to use for your pets that will allow you to save a bundle.

Long-term treatment for rheumatoid arthritis is critical for the people suffering from its symptoms of inflammation and pain. However, you can achieve the best long term care for rheumatoid arthritis if you are able to diagnose the symptoms at a very early stage and take the appropriate medical action and lifestyle changes. Find out the expert facts in this article.

Although, the genes play a very important role in the occurrence of rheumatoid arthritis, your lifestyle and diet habits also play a key role in the occurrence and progress of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.

Once you’re diagnosed positive, the long-term treatment for rheumatoid arthritis would consist of these 3 basic remedies: adequate rest, a well balanced exercise regimen and the regular use of anti-inflammatory drugs — whether they are prescription based, over-the-counter or natural.

Even though prescription based and over-the-counter medications offer short-term relief from pain and inflammation, but they suffer from long-term side effects. On the other hand, natural alternatives provide effective pain relief and are free of any potential side effects on your health

However, you should discuss with your doctor in complete detail before you use natural remedies on a standalone basis or in combination as a part of the best long term care for rheumatoid arthritis.

The common prescription and over-the-counter medications used in the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are –

1) Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs — they are very popular and the over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen and aspirin fall in this category. They are effective as a short-term relief from pain and inflammation, but they might lead to serious side effects like stomach problems, ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding, if you take them  in large doses and for extended periods of time.

2) Cox-2 inhibitors — it works by inhibiting the action of the enzyme Cox-2, which causes inflammation and arthritis pain. They have earned a notorious name and bad publicity because of their fatal side effects in the form of heart attack and stroke.

To cite an example, Vioxx which is a Cox-2 inhibitor brand produced by Merck was temporarily taken off the market because of its fatal side effects. Due to these factors, people are increasingly looking towards natural alternatives for the long-term treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

3) Corticosteroids — they also help to reduce inflammation and give relief in rheumatoid arthritis

As greater scientific evidence comes out regarding the adverse side effects of prescription drugs for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, natural remedies for rheumatoid arthritis is what you should look out for. Find out the expert facts in this article.

Natural remedies for rheumatoid arthritis can offer long-term relief from its painful symptoms. Let us look at some of the most common natural remedies and ingredients, and whether they are useful in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis –

1) Devil’s claw — it has natural anti-inflammatory properties. It is especially used in the treatment of osteoarthritis pain that affects the knee and hip area, and in chronic low back pain.

However, devil’s claw might not be the best alternative for rheumatoid arthritis patients. It interferes with prescription drugs such as warfarin and Ticlipidine and aggravates the conditions of acid reflux and peptic ulcers by increasing the production of stomach acids.

2) Feverfew — it has been used as a part of natural remedies for rheumatoid arthritis since ages. However, it has not been found to be very effective and also suffers from side effects such as mouth ulcers and stomach upset.

3) Li gong Teng and cat’s claw — they have been found to be effective as natural remedies for rheumatoid arthritis. However, they also have the following side effects.

Li gong Teng has shown male contraceptive properties. Even at low doses, it can lower the sperm count and lead to temporary infertility. It also suppresses the immune system function and increases the risk of infection and other health ailments.

Cat’s claw might cause kidney inflammation as a part of allergic reaction. It also affects the heart functions.

Safe natural remedies for rheumatoid arthritis

Omega-3 fatty acids that are found in fish oil and fatty fish are one of the best natural alternatives for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and such related inflammatory diseases.

The average Western diet consists of large amounts of Omega 6 fatty acids and is highly deficient in Omega 3 fatty acids. While Omega 6 fats cause inflammation and worsen the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, Omega 3s help to reduce inflammation and provide effective relief from rheumatoid arthritis and various other health problems that are caused due to inflammation.

Omega-3′s are natural anti-inflammatory. It has been found that when dietary supplementation consisting of Omega 3s was given to rheumatoid arthritis patients, a significant improvement in morning stiffness, aches and pain, and painful joints were seen in a period of 3 to 4 months.

Besides their extraordinary beneficial results in rheumatoid arthritis and inflammation control, Omega 3s — especially DHA and EPA that are found in fish oil supplements, also help in improving concentration levels, sharpening memory, alleviate the mood and keep depression away.

Purified Fish oil supplements that have been molecularly distilled are one of the best means of omega-3 supplementation that are free of the risk of any side effects. The process of molecular distillation ensures that harmful contaminants and toxins such as mercury, lead, PCBs, etc. have been removed from the oil and the resultant pure fish oil is then encapsulated into supplements.

As a part of natural remedies for rheumatoid arthritis, Green lipped mussel found in New Zealand is also an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids. It is used in combination with fish oil supplements and provides effective long-term freedom from the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, reduces pain and joint stiffness.
