Comprehensive Guide To Worldwide Meditation Techniques

There are as many types of meditation techniques as there are wonderful flavors of ice cream. This allow each person to find a flavor that is delicious to them. In this article series I will provide an overview of many of the different meditation techniques that exist and hopefully this will help you find the style that is sweetest to you.

Some meditation styles suit those of an intellectual disposition, while others are more attractive to those who prefer the path of love and surrender. Still others, with an active approach to life, may like the meditation techniques involving movement, while those with a strong mind would enjoy the approach of visualization and concentration. Overall, there are several broad categories under which we can capture most of these various meditation practices and in Part 1 I will explore Insight Meditation Techniques and Sound (Mantra) and Intention Meditation Techniques.

1. Insight Meditation Techniques: These are the meditations of choice for the Gyan Yogis or those drawn to the intellectual path. It incorporates the advanced meditation techniques from the Zen school of Buddhism, the Advaita Vedanta school of Hinduism, certain schools of Western Religions among others.

A. WHO AM I Meditation Technique: This techniques comes from the school of Advaita Vedanta (Non-Dualism / End of Knowledge). The meditation was popularized by Shri Ramana Maharishi and is based on negation of the false self in order to realize one’s True Nature. Here is an example of my experience with WHO AM I Meditation Practice.

B. Koan Meditation Technique: These meditations come from the Zen school of Buddhism and are designed to break down the ordinary pattern of conceptual, dualistic thinking. By breaking down the interference created by the thinking mechanism the practitioner is brought to confront the non-dual reality of “what is” directly and thus Awaken.

C. Contemplation Meditation Technique: These meditations utilize introspection, self-study, reflection, self-dialogue and contemplation to cut through the layers of false conditioning and false understanding that deludes the mind. These meditations have their roots in many Western Religions and are also a part of Eastern philosophies.

D. Silent Mind Meditation Technique: This meditation technique is my contribution to this category and it involves directly perceiving the fact of what is by acute observation of the thinking process. This is the flavor that I enjoy best and I have explained it in detail in the The Silent Mind Meditations, which are part of the Silent Mind Meditation Program. These meditations are an extension of the teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurti.

2. Sound (Mantra) & Intention Meditation Techniques: The meditations that fall under this category use the science of sound and thought vibrations (Naad Yoga), along with rhythm and music (Laya Yoga) to purify the heart and mind. These meditations have a wide range of applications, from bestowing Enlightenment, to improving health, wealth, happiness, peace etc…

A. Mantra Japa Meditation Technique: This meditation method uses the repetition of a mantra (a particular sound, word or phrase) verbally or mentally to create the necessary conditions for purification, refinement or expansion to take place. Mantras are essentially keys which allow one to tune into the individual energy field or tune into the Universal Energy field to produce certain desired results. Here is an example of using OM Mantra to activate the Third Eye Chakra.

B. Rhythm Meditation Technique: This form of meditation uses the combination of rhythm, chanting, music and breath to calibrate and perfect the system. The excellent Three Step Rhythmic Breathing (3srb) meditation technique of Sage Pantanjali and many Kundalini Yoga meditations fall under this category, among others.

C. Meditation via Song: Most of the meditations from the path of Devotion (Bhakti Yoga) and Love, designed to dissolve the ego belong in this category. This is a path most dear to those who are emotional in nature and feel a deep love for the divine. Christianity, Gospel, Sufi Meditations, Hare Krishna Meditations, Kirtans and Bhajans are some examples of techniques in this category.

D. Meditation via Prayer & Intention: All religions have meditations involving prayer and worship. The meditations that also use the power of intention to manifest desires fall under this category.

So you can see from above, these is a rich diversity to the Art of Meditation and certainly something for everybody. If one of the styles above does not catch your fancy, not to worry, I will be serving up more tasty flavors in part 2 of this series.

Natural Arthritis Anti-Inflammatory Remedies

Many people who experience the pain of inflammation find it is caused by arthritis; anti-inflammatory remedies prescribed for this particular affliction can be different than those for other associated problems and include extra steps in the sufferer’s health regimen. Why is it important to treat the inflammation first? It is inflamed joints which are the cause of the pain.

Chronic joint pain is not merely a condition that occurs along with aging. Our bodies are not programmed to automatically start breaking down over time. Knees, wrists, and fingers are composed of living cells which can grow and strengthen at any stage of life – but only with proper nutrition and nourishment, some of which may be gained through supplements.

More often what causes pain in joints afflicted with arthritis is the inflammation which accompanies it. And while over the counter pain relievers such as Ibuprofen may temporarily treat the symptom of pain, they do not address the underlying problem: local or systemic inflammation.

Our body contains substances which respond to inflammation. Any type of injury or infection causes the body to trigger a response to it, and it is this which causes pain. In people afflicted with arthritis, this pain signal associated with the inflammation of joints never switches off, making it a chronic condition.

One of the best natural methods of coping with arthritis pain is by changing the diet. Long ago advocated by Indian Ayurvedic and Oriental medical practitioners, choosing a diet high in “cooling” foods such as green, leafy vegetables, sources of lean protein, and fruits rich in anti-oxidants is one of the most reliable ways to begin combating inflammation caused by arthritis. Arthritis sufferers are cautioned to stay away from “hot” foods like partially hydrogenated fats, processed foods, sugar, red meat, and fried foods. You may not experience immediate relief, but a healthy diet can be a powerful tool in your treatment arsenal.

Another natural arthritis anti-inflammatory remedy is taking multivitamin and mineral supplements. Some of the best natural substances for treating inflammation include vitamin E, glucosamine-chondroitin, folic acid, and the B vitamins. An additional supplement to consider adding to your daily diet is an omega-3 fatty acid pill which is certified to be mercury-free (since many fish high in this substance often contain high levels of mercury).

A number of botanicals, such as bioflavonoids, Indian frankincense, ginger, and turmeric have shown to be effective in reducing inflammation, as well. Many of these are available as single supplement pills but there are also carefully-concocted combinations specifically targeting arthritis inflammation which can be purchased from a health products store or through an online company.

When it comes to treating pain, it is best to target the source with arthritis natural anti-inflammatory agents. Without addressing the inflammation of the joints, arthritis sufferers will fail to gain any relief. Start by adopting a more healthful diet and consider using natural vitamin, mineral, and herbal supplements to achieve the maximum pain-relief benefit.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Cure and Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease, inflammatory type of arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is also classified as an autoimmune disease because it can affect multiple other organs of the body; rheumatoid arthritis is referred to as a systemic illness and is sometimes called rheumatoid disease.

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis will typically not have pain or swelling in the finger joint closest to the fingertip the distal interphalangeal joint.  The other joints in the hand are often affected.  The affected joints are often tender to the touch.
Depending on how long the person has been having symptoms, and the severity of the rheumatoid arthritis, there may also be some deformity in the fingers, hands, wrists, and other joints.

Rheumatoid nodules may develop and be felt as firm lumps beneath the skin.  These occur most commonly at points of pressure under the elbow and on the fingers.  Usually rheumatoid nodules do not cause pain but they can become infected or put pressure on a nerve in which case they would need to be treated. Rheumatoid arthritis is a common rheumatic disease, affecting approximately 1.3 million people in the United States, according to current census data. The disease is three times more common in women as in men.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms: – Generally, if a joint on the right side of your body is affected; the same joint on the left side is also affected. Feeling tired and run-down with swollen lymph glands, a low fever, little or no appetite, and weight loss Appearance of small bumps under the skin near the affected joints

* Joint pain, joint swelling, joint stiffness, and warmth around the affected joint
* Morning stiffness which lasts one or more hours
* Small bumps called nodules may appear around effected joints.
* Fatigue and noticeable loss of energy
* Low grade fevers and sometimes flu-like symptoms
* Loss of appetite, weight loss, and anemia associated with chronic diseases, depression
* Dry eyes and dry mouth associated with a secondary condition Jorgen’s syndrome
* Joint deformity and instability from damage to cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and bone
* Stiffness in the joints. You will usually see a reduction in the range of motion of effected joints.
* Limited range of motion in affected joints
* Flares and remission of disease activity is characteristic of rheumatoid arthritis

How to Treat Rheumatoid Arthritis: –

Diet: One of the simplest treatments, and yet a treatment that has been found to be effective for many people, is consuming an anti-inflammatory diet.  Primarily, this consists of consuming omega-3 fatty acid containing foods, including small cold water fish, fruits, and vegetables.  See the section on diet and nutrition for more details.

Exercise and rest:  Rest is an important part of treating rheumatoid arthritis.  One of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis can be fatigue as well as a sense of generalized malaise.  It is important to get adequate rest so that your body does not get run down; this is true for everyone, but particularly true for people with rheumatoid arthritis.

Early diagnosis: The sooner that rheumatoid arthritis is treated, the better.  If you think you might have rheumatoid arthritis, or other type of arthritis, don’t delay in getting to your doctor.  Prolonging treatment only makes it more difficult to treat later.

Physical therapy:  It is important to be enrolled in a well-structured physical therapy program.  In addition, physicians and physical therapists can fit you for gait aids (e.g. cane) when necessary.

Weight loss:  As with other forms of arthritis, if you are overweight then losing weight can make a large impact on decreasing pain and stiffness in your joints by taking some of the pressure off of them.

Acupuncture and Arthritis Treatment

For centuries, the history of acupuncture treatment for arthritis has been with us. It provides many pain sufferers with an added or alternative form of relief of their pain. Even though it cannot purposefully succeed on its own, nevertheless it is tested and proven to give great relief to those who need it.

On every occasion when your joints feel like burning up or when you feel like they’re starting to inflame and grow to be tender, start with your acupuncture therapy and see how it can greatly reduces the pain that you feel. Usually, patients who use both medication and acupuncture for arthritis state that they are easily alleviated from the discomfort as compared to that of using the drugs alone. For this reason, both acupuncture and arthritis medication treatment should be considered by the pain bearers.

Arthritis is an illness usually experienced by the aging population. Needle piercing is relatively popular among this age group for the reason that they say that it works best in relieving them of pain. Acupuncture knee arthritis and acupuncture osteoporosis are two of the recognized treatments sought after by the aging group.

Acupuncture osteoarthritis is performed for the purpose not to eliminate the disease but to control its symptoms. Take for example, if successive acupuncture osteoarthritis therapies are instituted, there would be more chances of pain relief. But if done sporadically, there would be smaller chances for you to get symptomatically healed.

Many people may find osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis confusing. To clarify it further, osteoarthrtiris more often than not targets the older age group and usually affects the hips most of the time. In contrast, rheumatoid arthritis targets the younger population and points to the small joints as the main problem. Even though both are bone problems, yet they are different when it comes to acupuncture treatment. The placement of the needles is also different for each of the classification, and the number of needles to be used is not the same as well. Besides, the sessions to be performed also vary greatly depending on the severity of the disease and depending on the required time by your therapists. Again, if it is done at regular sessions, there would be greater chances that you will get cured from the painful symptoms of arthritis.

In most cases, the effectiveness of acupuncture lies on the willingness of the person to get cured. If one is strong-minded enough to persevere on to complete the course of acupuncture and arthritis treatment, then it would be a lot easier to get cured from the pains of the disease.

How a Parasite Might Hold Clues For New Arthritis Treatment

All right, this is just plain… distressing. If you’re at all squeamish about parasites, read on at your own risk. Researchers at the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde will try to understand why auto immune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis are so rare in countries where parasitic worm infections are common and whether this may lead to new effective arthritis treatments.

Yes, that’s right. Parasitic worms living inside the bodies of populations from tropical regions without causing them any trouble at all. And perhaps, strangely, providing some benefit. Which leaves you to wonder if Mother Nature doesn’t know just exactly what she’s doing after all…

The scientific community is well aware of an inverse relationship between worm infections and diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, type-1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis. Countries where people are naturally infected with this particular parasite seem to have lower rates of these conditions than those countries where this type of infection doesn’t occur or has been eradicated.

Luckily for the squeamish among us, it’s not the actual parasitic filarial nematode worm that the Scots scientists are wanting to put into our bodies, it’s a large molecule they secrete known as ES-62. This substance is found in the bloodstream of parasite infected people in the tropics, and seems to provide some protective benefit against the inflammation the worms should be causing in their human hosts. The good news is that ES-62 has no known adverse effects, leaving the body perfectly able to fight off other infections.

“ES-62 appears to act like a ‘thermostat’ to effectively turn down disease-causing inflammation while leaving essential defense mechanisms intact to fight infection and cancer,” according to Iain McInnes, a member of the research team and Professor of Experimental Medicine at the University of Glasgow. “This property also makes ES-62 a unique tool for scientists to identifying how such disease-causing inflammation occurs.”

The team is going to try and produce a synthetic (again… whew!) version of the ES-62 molecule from the worms in an effort to come up with an anti inflammatory therapy that works effectively for auto immune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, type-1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis. The three-year study is being funded by the UK’s Arthritis Research Campaign.
Earlier work has also shown ES-62 to have real potential as a therapy for allergies too.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a potentially crippling joint disease that comes as a result of your immune system attacking itself. Inflammation in the joints and internal organs is the result and is an incredibly painful condition.

At present there is no cure for this severely debilitating condition, but there is lots of research currently underway, and various arthritis treatment options are available that help take down the painful inflammation and keep joint damage to a minimum. One such treatment has recently hit the headlines – a drug called Tocilizumab (which will be sold under the brand name RoActemra). This works in conjunction with another arthritis drug Methotrexate and works to halt symptoms.

Over 14,000 people have joined Kirsten’s popular (and sometimes controversial) Daily Health Bulletin, so why not join them and stay up to date with the latest on arthritis treatment and general health news daily. Meditation Techniques by Meditation Mania

Meditation techniques give peace and calmness in a spiritual way. It enlightens the human life. Meditation techniques nurtures and transforms the qualities of an individual by relieving him from stress of daily life. Meditation technique changes the negative thoughts into positive and it is done just by focusing within a one’s self and not outside.

Here are some popular forms of Meditation Techniques –

Concentrative Meditation Technique is performed by focusing the attention on an image, a sound (mantra chanting) or on the breath. Concentrative Meditation technique stills the mind and results in a better clarity and awareness. Concentrative meditation technique can be done simply by focusing on the breath; it is a very basic step. It is believed that there is a direct connection between the state of mind and the breath. When an individual gets agitated, frightened, and anxious or distracted, the breath shallows. But, when the mind is focused and calm, then the breath is deep, regular and slow. If an individual focuses on the rhythm of the process of breath intake and out, it gives an object for meditation. When the breath is focused, the mind gets absorbed in the process of breath intake and out. In result, the breathing becomes deep and slow. It makes the mind more alert.

Zen Meditation – Zen Meditation technique is performed by focusing the attention on the feelings and sensations, sounds, thoughts, images and so forth without thinking about these elements. While meditating, there should be no thinking about the worries, images, thoughts, and memories. Zen meditation technique results in a better state of mind that is clear, calm and non-reactive. Zen meditation technique is done by observing sensations and breathes non-judgmentally and very keenly. Zen meditation technique gradually takes an individual to emptiness & stillness, but it takes some time to master this technique. Zen Meditation technique is the easiest and most effective technique.

Japa Meditation – Japa Meditation technique is mainly performed for easing the tensed and stressed life. Japa Meditation results in a peaceful and calm life. Also it evokes the happiness from within an individual’s self. Japa meditation technique involves the God’s name. The mantra chanting can be done softly or an individual may chant the mantra loudly. While sitting in a posture of meditation, the Japa meditation technique can be done in addition ot the worship in group or any other peaceful sitting activities.

Mostly, the Japa Meditation technique is performed counting a bead string that is known as Japa Mala. The Vaishnava devotees mostly chant by using a bead string that is made of Holy Basil (Tulsi). There are 108 beads in a Japa Mala. People also wear the Japa Beads around the neck while some wear them on their wrists.

Chakra Meditation – There are energy focal points in our body that are use by us in a conscious or unconscious state if mind. These energy focal points are called Chakras. The focal points are located in the body parts like head or heart. In the Chaka meditation technique, the different postures are used in order to open the Chakras. The hands are placed in a specific position and the body is relaxed, the eyes are closed; the charka is asked to open. Then it is visualized in the mind that the chakra color emanates and the size of the charka becomes larger. As the color becomes brighter, the color’s warmth is easily felt; also the charka emotions are felt. The body organs are felt filled with light and energy.

Bhuta Shuddi is a form of Chakra Meditation of Yoga and Tantra practice through which the five elements (bhutas) are balanced or purified (shuddhi). Bhuta refers to the past, and shuddhi refers to purifying that past, or the samskaras that operate in conjunction with the five elements. This is a very useful practice, whether you think of it as preparation for kundalini awakening, or simply as a practice for feeling balanced, centered, or tranquil, etc. (One of the two foundations of Yoga is Abhyasa, practices seeking of tranquility; Yoga Sutras 1.12-1.14).

For the Chakra Meditation of Bhuta Shuddhi, it is necessary to understand how the five elements relate to the chakras. The five bhutas are the five elements of earth, water, fire, air, and space, and they operate in conjunction with the lower five chakras (at subtle level they are called tanmatras, which are part of tattvas, or subtle constituents). The sixth chakra is of mind, and is beyond or prior to the bursting forth of space, air, fire, water, and finally earth. Consciousness itself (or whatever you want to call it) is prior to, or the source of manifestation of mind, and is the seventh chakra (surely there are other chakras, including between sixth and seventh, but the bhuta shuddhi practice itself need not focus directly on these).

Transcendental Meditation or yoga nidra (popularized by the Bihar School of Yoga), which owe its origin to ancient Hindu meditative techniques, aim towards a totally detached frame of mind. These forms encourage the practitioner to retreat within the inner-self, into the “real” world, away from the “illusions” (maya) of outside influences. Meditative practices like Mantra yoga, for example, induces the mind to concentrate on a sacred sound by ritualistic chanting, until it attains the trance-like state of samadhi (a state of mind, where it is only responsive to subjective impressions).

Healing Meditation – Healing meditation is practiced after sitting comfortably. It is a belief that the body is filling with light slowly, starting from the feet and then slowly moving upwards. As the light moves up the body, the light is felt like is relaxing the muscles and also the mind. I feel the light moving upwards until my entire body is filled with light and every muscle of my body is feeling relaxed.

Healing meditation calms the mind and gives it a balance state. Healing meditation increases the self esteem and confidence in a person. Healing meditation improve the memory and concentration of the mind. It reduces the tension quickly. It improves the attitude, mood and outlook on life. Healing meditation increases an individual’s problem solving ability.

It is felt like the body of light is radiating the light out from the eyes, the light is shining like a torch is shinning out directly from the eyes. Feel that the soul is directing the light towards the body part that causes discomfort and pain, it represents as a shadow on the body. Imagine like the painful body areas have dark shadows around them. Now feel like you are attracting a healing light to the painful body area, so that the darkness is vanished.

You can feel that this healing light is returning you to health and vitality

Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment

Rheumatoid arthritis treatment helps to relieve the signs and symptoms of the disease. Sometimes, it helps to modify the disease process. One goal for treatment is normally to alleviate or relieve the symptoms. The other goal is normally to prevent future destruction of the joints. If this disorder is left untreated, it can make you handicapped. Although pain relievers can help to relive the symptoms, they may not help in dealing with the long term consequences of this disease.

Most doctors recommend that apart from pain relievers, this disorder should also be treated using at least one anti-rheumatic medication. Cortisone therapy has been effective in providing relief in the past but its long term effects have been said to be adverse. Cortisone injections on the other hand have been said to be affective even for long term use. They can be used in combination with any anti-rheumatic treatment.

Pharmacological treatment for this condition will involve the use of Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs or DMARDs, anti-inflammatory and analgesics. DMARDs normally help to reduce the rate of damage to the bone and cartilage. They are also said to produce symptomatic remissions and also delay the progression of the disease.

Alternative rheumatoid arthritis treatments include weight loss, rest, physiotherapy, immunoadsorption therapy and joint injections. Physical activity or regular exercise not only helps to maintain joint mobility but also makes joints stronger. Radon therapy is a popular treatment method in Germany and Eastern Europe. If your joint is severely damaged, you may require surgery for joint replacement. An example is a knee replacement.

Many of the most effective natural remedies were actually the basis for the development of the more recognized medicinal options that are currently the trend.  Natural joint pain relief can take many different forms. The most commonly understood type of natural joint pain relief f refers to natural substances, usually derived from plants that help to alleviate pain.

What Causes of Joint Pain/Arthritis?

Is Meditation for Dummies or for Wise People?

There was a time when meditation or no meditation was a serious question for me. I come from a Protestant background where in my view (which is admittedly biased) prayer was a practice of reciting important-sounding words. I struggled for years with the concept of prayer. It did not make sense to me that in church other people should pray on my behalf, but then I thought that was just me being the rebel again, and I kept quiet about it.

Outside of church I read books about prayer, and the prayers of other people. Still, there was this feeling inside of me that it is not quite right. Eventually I gave up on figuring out what prayer is about and just got on with life.

Of course I had conversations with God in my head, but none of the books that I read described these conversations as prayer. The conversations were also quite one-sided, because I told God what he/she needed to know about my life. Listening to God did not even cross my mind, because at the time I thought “If I cannot see God, then I also cannot hear God”. I intuitively knew that there must be something or someone out there, but the thought that this someone or something was able to actually speak to me was too far-fetched for me to accept.

You will agree with me that having a one-sided conversation is quite lonely, especially when you want reassurance in times of need and encouragement in challenging times. All the time I felt a need to confirm that there is someone on the “other side” that was hearing me.

I kept searching and was introduced to meditation. I tried it initially because it was not recommended in my culture – the church was there to take care of my religious needs and that should have been enough. However, sometimes the way to get me to do something is to put obstacles in my way – especially if the obstacles are based on fear and misconceptions that I can expose.

I found meditation to be quite an interesting experience. It definitely helped me to relax. I always felt calmer and more secure after meditating.

I was surprised when I discovered that meditation does not mean losing your consciousness. I had this perception that when you meditate you actually leave your body, only to discover that during meditation I am still fully in charge of the process. I could compare it to driving a familiar route every day. I know exactly where to slow down, where to turn, how long it will take me to get to my destination, and I simply drive.

If you show me detail pictures of buildings or other landmarks along the route, I might not be able to recognise them, even if I have travelled the same route every day for a year. The reason for this would be that I in fact go into a meditative state while driving when the route becomes familiar, and my mind gets occupied with other things like planning my day or having a conversation with a passenger.

The same happens during meditation. This is because meditation is an inner journey. I still remain in charge of the route, and I can return to “reality” any time I want to.

I initially found that guided meditations work much easier for me. Meditation requires a still mind, but at the same time meditation stills the mind. Getting the balance right is not so simple when your life is in turmoil or when finding a quiet place to meditate in a busy household is a challenge.

Saying to yourself that you must clear your mind of all thoughts so that a meditation can be successful is like saying to yourself that now is not a good time to think of a yellow elephant. Guess what picture just popped into your mind? Yes – the same happens when you focus on having no thoughts in your mind. Suddenly all the thoughts tumble into your mind.

This is where guided meditations made a huge difference to me. Rather than focusing on clearing my mind, I was able to focus on the guided meditation. As a result I experienced the benefits of meditation much sooner.

Before I got to understand that I create my own reality and my own future, I experienced fear, anxiety and even depression. These also disappeared with meditation.

Probably the biggest surprise for me was to discover that while in a meditative state I have access to images, thoughts and information that made a massive positive difference to my life. Initially I thought that these images, thoughts and bits of information are just my imagination, and I was surprised at how active my imagination was.

But then I discovered that what I received during meditation somehow had a either a direct or a subtle link to what I experienced when I was not meditating. I tried to ask questions while I was “awake”, and found that I received very interesting answers while I was meditating.

Eventually I realised that meditation is probably a form of prayer – but meditation is about listening rather than about talking.

I am still working on this, but I think that prayer is a way of asking, whereas meditation is a way of getting answers. This definition works for me, because I get many answers during meditation – and it works even better when I first ask the questions and then do my meditation.

Not all the answers come during meditation. I have discovered that there are more coincidences and more synchronicity in my “waking” life, and often things just happen around me that make me feel “yes – there is another answer”.

The fears, anxieties and depressive feelings have disappeared, and instead I am much more at peace with myself, especially during uncertain times. And I believe that I have found a way of listening to God. It is quite comforting to know that my communication with God is no longer one-sided.

I have decided to use my experiences and provide guided meditations to other people who may want to try meditation but are not sure how to do it. I still benefit even from recording the guided meditations. Every time I do a meditation, I feel more in control of my life and my thoughts.

An link to an example of a guided meditation, as well as guidelines on how to practise meditation, is available on my purple blog.

I wish you a lovely journey, and trust that you will benefit from meditation as much as I do.

Top Ways to Treat Osteoarthritis

The bad news: Osteoarthritis has no cure. The good news: You can treat its symptoms. Acetaminophen is often recommended because it relieves pain with the fewest side of effects. Over-the-counter NSAIDs such as aspirin and ibuprofen reduce inflammation as well as pain and may be helpful. However, these drugs can irritate the stomach. To prevent irritation, try coated aspirin or take medication with meals.

If the pain is severe, your doctor may prescribe stronger NSAIDs and, rarely, corticosteroid injections, shot directly into your joints. Topical therapy, with creams that contain aspirin compounds, may also relieve pain. Along with drug therapy, exercise, and physical therapy, alternative arthritis treatments may also bring relief.

Below are ways to treat osteoarthritis:

Self-treatment

Self-care is also a valuable tool in treating arthritis. Learning to pace yourself during the day and getting enough rest at night are two of the most important ways to help yourself if you have osteoarthritis. Rather than think about what you can no longer do, focus on what you can do instead.

Regular exercise increases joint protection by stimulating the production of synovial fluid, which coats the ends of the joints. Like oil, this thick substance lubricates your joints and may help prevent further damage. Gently moving the joints and stretching the muscles and tendons are the best ways to relieve strain on painful joints, improve body alignment, and help you feel more relaxed and in control of your disease. You should do a few simple, carefully controlled mobility and stretching movements once or twice daily, even when your joints are swollen and painful.

Rest is also important because it can lessen inflammation. The key is balance. Adjust the amount of rest and exercise according to the stage of your disease and how you feel each day. Too much inactivity makes the conditions worse, but too much exercise puts you at risk for exhaustion, injury, and more pain. Exercise as much as you can to increase movement and strength, improve the functioning of the joints, and create better all-round physical well-being. Learn to listen to your body and know when it is telling you to take things easy.

Surgery

Your doctor may recommend surgery if your joints are severely damaged. One procedure, called osteotomy, corrects bone deformity by cutting the bone and repositioning it. Osteotomy is usually done on the knee. Total joint arthroplasty involves resurfacing, or refining, the ends of the bones so they can move more freely against each other. This term is also used for total joint replacement in which the joint is removed and a metal, ceramic, or plastic device is inserted in its place.

Meditation Guide

There is absolutely no way I can possibly tell you about all the different types of meditation in just one article. My intention is to tell you about some of the general benefits of meditation the different types have in common and introduce you to a few popular forms of meditation.

Many people have never tried meditation and they truly do not know what they are missing. Our world is full of sounds, sights, and other distractions. We are bombarded with these things every day of our lives. Meditation allows you to escape from this for awhile. A chance to truly relax

Through meditation can you truly get to know yourself, organize your thoughts, relax, and even improve your health. That quiet time can give you time to hear your own soul.

It takes practice. We are so used to living in a rush, it’s actually difficult for us to learn to totally relax and release all of the pressure we place on ourselves.

The things that must be considered include the length of time you need to devote to meditation, where you will meditate, your posture and your eye position, and very important, how to control your breathing.

There are many guides and books on proper meditation techniques and I suggest you research this. This one article is much too short to cover all of the proper meditation techniques. Here, I will stay focused on the many types of meditation.

One type of meditation that is definitely designed to help you stay healthy is called HRM, or Heart Rhythm Meditation. This type of meditation is used to coordinate the rhythms of your heart, your breath, and your brainwaves. It is supposed to help you create harmony within yourself. HRM incorporates several types of meditation into one.

Others include what are generally referred to as upward and downward meditation. As an example, HRM above incorporates several types of downward meditation. Other types of downward meditation include reality meditation, active meditation, lover meditation, meditation centered on the heart, in-life meditation, inclusive meditation, and awakening meditation.

Upward forms of meditation include religious meditation, meditation centered on the mind, monastic meditation, denial meditation, dualistic meditation, trance meditation, observer meditation, passive meditation, and fantasy meditation.

Upward meditation is described as drawing energy upwards and consciousness out of the body. That is where the term out-of-body experience is used. Downward meditation invites energy down into the body through the body’s third eye, or heart.

There are types of meditation that utilize both upward and downward meditation, but for the purposes of this article we will focus on those that are more specific.

Reality meditation has an obvious definition. It is based on reality rather than fantasy or imagination, while fantasy meditation relies on your imagination. In fantasy meditation you may imagine you are in another place, have become another person, or maybe even another type of existent or non-existent being.

Another two types of meditation that are the exact opposites of each other are passive and active meditation. In passive meditation, the type most people assume is the right way, the person tries to be absolutely still and do nothing, emptying their mind as much as possible. They may seem or actually even become asleep. If this was the goal, it is a perfect way to achieve sleep.

Active meditation is goal-oriented. The person focuses his or her mind outwardly toward that goal. The person attempts to remain in a state of meditation sending out waves to achieve the goal, usually used to bring peace to an otherwise tumultuous situation.

Denial and dualistic meditation are approximately the same. Many times the person is using this form of meditation to overcome pain or suffering. They focus their mind and tell themselves that they are not really suffering or in pain. Belief can heal, therefore they strive to create a reality where the suffering and pain are gone or it has no effect on them.

Trance meditation is used to diminish sensory capacity. The person uses it to achieve an ultimate calmness. This usually entails rhythmic chanting, suggestions of deep sleep, or submission. Hypnosis is an example of the use of Trance meditation.

The opposite of trance meditation might be alertness meditation or awakening meditation. The person won’t become sleepy as in trance meditation, but their senses will be heightened. The rhythm of the chants are usually faster and the rhythm changes. In a group it may change to keep in harmony with the others in the group.

As I said earlier in the article, this is written just to introduce you to the fact that there are various forms of meditation and each has it’s own uses. You may want to study the different types and look for the one that is right for you before you start.

Meditation isn’t something you should just do because someone recommended you do it. It isn’t something you should start doing because someone wants you to go to meditation group sessions with him or her. What works for them may not work for you. You need to explore the different forms of meditation that are out there and find one that specifically helps you.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment: Alternatives And Medication

Rheumatoid arthritis treatment is a necessary yet complex process. There are many aspects that need to be taken into consideration in this fight against your own body. The first step is to see your doctor. There are several forms of arthritis, one of them being rheumatoid, that can lead to more serious complications including the inability to use your joint to its full function. What is important to know is that there are many rheumatoid arthritis treatment plans that can work for you and improve your overall well being, minimize your pain as well as slow the progression of the arthritis.

Standard Treatment Options For Arthritis

It is essential for you to seek out the help of your doctor. He or she will design a course of action to help treat your condition. Most of the time, this will include several types of medications. One of the first medications you will take includes a pain relief formula. Because arthritis is an inflammation of the joint’s lining, medications can help to lessen the swelling that happens there. It will take a few tries to get the right dosage down, but pain relief can be found. In addition to this, your doctor is also likely to give you a medication that will slow the progression of arthritis. By telling your body to stop attacking itself, the medication can slow down how fast arthritis envelopes your joint completely. This is critical as the progression can cause devastating results if left untreated. The combination of medications is vitally important.

Alternatives Are Out There, Too

By either using these alternative methods in combination with the rheumatoid arthritis treatment that your doctor described or doing them alone, they can be helpful in relieving some or all of the pain associated with arthritis. Some of these treatments include massage, nutritional supplementation which usually includes the compounds of glucosamine and chondroitin, as well as homeopathy. In addition to these, acupuncture, wearing copper jewelry and magnets have been shown to help stimulate the healing within the body, including helping to relieve the pain caused by arthritis inflammation.

Should you consider these alternative therapies for the treatment of your arthritis? Some doctors do not believe that they can provide you with the help you need while others do. The ultimate decision will be yours to make but many find that these therapies can be expensive and may only provide a certain level of benefit to your overall health. On the other hand, there are some that believe that things like acupuncture really can stimulate the healing in your body including helping you to improve your overall experience with arthritis. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor and do more research about each option.

The most important thing for you to do in regards to rheumatoid arthritis treatment is to seek out the help of a qualified doctor or even a specialist in the field. From here, develop a plan that is all inclusive and tells you everything that you need to know to better your daily experience with arthritis.

Natural Arthritis Treatments as Complementary Medicine

Your doctor can be a good source for natural arthritis treatments, especially if you are considering any types of herbal remedies or dietary supplements. It is important to make sure that these natural medications will not have a negative impact on your current medications that you might be taking. It is never a good idea to stop a traditional medicine in favor of an herbal one, but some herbal remedies can be effective when taken in conjunction with prescription medicines.

Your doctor can advise you as to which herbal remedies are safe, and how to know if you are purchasing one of good quality. It is also a good idea to talk to your doctor before seeing an acupuncturist, chiropractor or massage therapist, since your doctor can advise you as to which treatments might be most effective for you. He may even be able to provide a referral to a professional in the field that he has confidence in.

Natural arthritis treatments can be an effective complement to the traditional medications that you might already be taking. Talk to your doctor today about the best choices in natural arthritis treatments for you.

Article About Arthritis

WHAT IS ARTHRITIS ?

For most people arthritis pain and inflammation is a normal process as the body ages. In fact, most people over the age of 50 show some signs of this disease. Joints naturally degenerate over time.

Arthritis is a term that includes a group of disorders that affect the joints and muscles. Arthritis symptoms include joint pain, inflammation and limited movement of joints. When a joint is inflamed it may be swollen, tender, warm to the touch or red. Surrounding each joint is a protective capsule holding a lubricating fluid to aid in motion. Cartilage, a slippery smooth substance, covers most joints to assure an even, fluid motion of the joint. With joint arthritis , the cartilage may be damaged, narrowed and lost by a degenerative process or by inflammation making movement painful.

There are over 100 types of this degenerating process and rheumatic diseases including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid a rthritis , and fibromyalgia.

MANAGEMENT OPTIONS

Fortunately, arthritis can be managed through a combination of medication, exercise, rest, weight-management, nutrition, and, in some cases, surgery. Arthritis is a chronic disease that will remain for a long time and possibly for the rest of the patient’s remaining life. The treatments will probably change over time and medication may be adjusted.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

There are many different signs and symptoms of arthritis . If one experiences pain, stiffness, or swelling around a joint for more than two weeks, then he should visit the physician. Only a physician can determine if this is because of arthritis . These symptoms may come up suddenly or slowly over time and may also include sleeplessness, fatigue, depression, and muscle aches.

The doctor will confirm the type of problem and will then prepare the course of treatment.
