DOG ARTHRITIS MEDICATION | BEST WAYS TO TREAT

]]>

I’ll get straight to the point on dog arthritis medication because our dogs need relief from the pain associated with dog arthritis. There are other possible alternatives you should consider but first to the dog arthritis medications from your vet.

DOG ARTHRITIS MEDICATION FROM YOUR VETERINARIAN

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs also called NSAID’S. These are non-narcotic pain relievers. Common NSAID’s used are Rimadyl, Etogesic, Meloxicam, Phenybultazone, Ketoprofen, and Piroxicam. Be careful with NSAID’S because there can be harsh side effects to your pet from using these medications. Your vet will want to closely monitor your dog if they are on these medications.

I do not like these forms of traditional medicine because of the possible adverse side effects. In some cases there may not be many options but in other cases there are other things you can do.

DIRECT PAIN MANAGEMENT WITH DOG ARTHRITIS MEDICATION -OVER THE COUNTER MEDICINES

Aspirin – Used for pain relief but be careful as long term use can cause internal bleeding just like in humans. If you decide to use aspirin then use buffered aspirin. Never use ibuprofen or acetaminophen on dogs. Aspirin should never be given to a cat.

]]>

Again even with over the counter medications there can be some side effect. I prefer more natural treatments using supplements and home remedies to manage the pain.

NATURAL TREATMENTS FOR CANINE ARTHRITIS

Glucosamine – Safe for both dogs and cats. Made from shellfish. The pet’s body produces natural glucosamine but when cartilage damage gets to be too much the pet’s body cannot produce enough. Glucosamine supplements are readily available at pet stores without a prescription. Some dog foods will contain glucosamine but some studies suggest it will not contain enough. Chondroitin sulfate – Also available as a dietary supplement without a prescription. This product effectively reduces pain but does not lubricate the joints like glucosamine. Omega fatty acids – Used to reduce inflammation. They also work to reduce pain and swelling.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT HOME REMEDIES

Home remedies have some great benefits.

Saves money on vet bills Reduces the chance of harmful side effects Most are readily available in your home already Well tolerated by our four legged friends Can also be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment Are especially useful in mild cases of illnesses and ailments

Can’t afford to pay the vet? Then read on through the last paragraph and click on the links to find inexpensive home remedies to treat a lot of illnesses that your pets will be afflicted with over their lives.

Prescription Arthritis Drugs – Worth the Risk?

]]>

If you’re reading this, you’re probably already aware of the dangers associated with prescription arthritis drugs. But it never hurts to have all of the facts, so let’s arm ourselves with some information on many of the most common arthritis drugs and their potential side effects.

Steroids

Steroids have been around since the discovery of cortisone in the 1950′s. Corticosteroids like Prednisone are synthetic drugs that decrease inflammation in the body by mimicking the action of the natural hormone cortisol. There are times that steroids are necessary in order to reduce inflammation that threatens to damage an organ like your heart or kidneys.

However steroids do have some debilitating potential side effects and the higher the dose, the greater the risk. Here’s just a few…

Insomnia

Acne

Eye damage (cataracts, glaucoma, blurred vision)

High blood pressure

Puffy, swollen face

Weight gain and hunger

Mood swings

Restlessness and anxiety

Osteoporosis (brittle bones) and bone loss

Decreased resistance to infections

If you already have osteoporosis or thinning bones, steroids could make it even worse. If your immune system is depressed by steroid use, you’re more likely to catch a cold or flu. You could also develop an infection like pneumonia. But if you’re suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, you already have a malfunctioning immune system! It doesn’t need the further assault of a high steroid dose.

If you find steroids less than enchanting, let’s consider NSAIDs…

NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories) came on to the scene with a lot of fanfare because they contained no steroids. They work by suppressing an enzyme that helps the body produce prostaglandins.

Certain types of prostaglandins are responsible for the pain and swelling of diseases like arthritis, so it would make sense to have less of them, right?

Problem is, prostaglandins serve other functions in the body. They protect your stomach lining. Without them, you could develop an ulcer. Even ordinary aspirin can cause your stomach to bleed if you take enough of it!

Heartburn, indigestion, vomiting, and diarrhea are also common side effects of NSAIDs. So what’s to be done now?

1999 saw the “new and improved” NSAIDs being released. They were supposed to be the perfect answer for patients seeking long-term pain relief.

COX-2 Inhibitors have fewer gastrointestinal side effects, so they were considered a safer alternative. Truly a great discovery for the new century!

Or at least until we learned that the most popular drug in the group, Vioxx (rofecoxib) increases our risk of heart attack and stroke. This was actually discovered in 2000, but it wasn’t until 2004 that Vioxx disappeared from the shelves. Patients are still suing the manufacturer for damages.

The future will probably see the release of newer, and hopefully safer arthritis drugs. No doubt the claims will be loud and long and maybe, this time, they’ll be justified.

However until medicine starts to look at the human body as a whole, we’ll continue to have these sorts of problems. Isolating a set of symptoms and trying to eliminate them, without addressing the root cause of the disease, can only create more problems than it solves.

Dealing With Arthritis Pain

Edit Article |

There are over 100 different types of arthritis that we know of at the moment. Each has its own symptoms, causes and methods of treatments. Although each type of arthritis is different, there is one symptom that is present in all types of arthritis: pain. This is why learning the best ways to deal with the pain is a must read for any arthritis sufferer.

As soon as you are diagnosed with arthritis, it is important that you, as a patient, are well informed of all your treatment method options. This is because each treatment for arthritis pain is different for each type. It is advisable for the patient to start with mild pain treatments first before increasing the dosage.

The mild pain treatment and medications are the over the counter medicines like Tylenol and Aspirin, used by many individuals on a regular basis. Taking these types of medications usually is enough to treat the symptoms of some patients, but since most people use these medicines in a regular basis these are not enough to treat the symptoms exhibited by their arthritis.

More than 40 million Americans alone suffer from the pain of various types of arthritis, and not all of them are older adults. Children and teenagers are also afflicted with arthritis pain, and it hits both genders equally. Pain can be mild, or throbbing in its intensity.

The sensation of pain may be felt differently from the fingers than it is felt in the knee, or another place in your body where body tissues connect to provide movable parts. Some people suffer from arthritis pain in the extremities, though many others also suffer arthritic pain in the spine as well as the hips.

Another form is gouty arthritis which is brought about by the depositions of uric acid crystals in the joint resulting further to inflammation. Pseudogout is a very rare type of gout which is brought about by the formation of rhomboid crystals of calcium pyrophosphate.

All forms of arthritis are accompanied by pain. Pain occurring in the joints is called arthralagia.

Arthritis pain patterns may vary depending on what type of arthritis is present and the location in the body where the illness is being experienced. For instance, arthritis pain brought about by rheumatoid arthritis is generally worse during the mornings and most frequently accompanied with stiffness.

During its early stages, the patients affected by the ailment will often show no symptoms after a morning shower. Both in children and in aged patients, arthritis pain may not be the presenting feature. For the aged patients, they only tend to move less, while infant patients refuse to use the affected limbs.

Pain is the most basic symptom associated with arthritis. Apply warm compress to the area of pain with the use of a heating pad, warm bath water or hot towel. Ice compress is also effective for swollen and inflamed joints.

You can also alternately switch warm and cold compress to minimize pain and reduce inflammation. Massage greatly reduces pain as it relieves nerve endings and tensed surrounding muscle tissues. St. John’s Wort oil or eucalyptus oil are effective in reducing inflammation so use this as necessary for added comfort.

Arthritis can be handled in this same way. The better you get at ignoring the pain, the happier your life will be.

Another way to handle arthritis is by heating the joints that are hurting. Warmth can be very soothing. If this is combined with aromatherapy, then the soothing power can increase. Now, don’t get too addicted to this combination. You could spend your whole day soothing pain this way.

Painful and stiff joints limits people’s quality of life since if they are in pain or have stiff joints they can’t continue to engage in normal activities that they love to do. Although joint health products are available on the market, people are looking for effective and safe alternatives. They are seeking alternatives since many do not respond to glucosamine-chondroitin, they do not want to take drugs that can have serious side effects, or they are looking for all natural solutions. Now there is a scientifically proven alternative to provide this solution – specialized rosehip powder.

82% of osteoarthritis subjects responded with reduced pain scores after 3 weeks on specialized rosehip powder compared to 49% of subjects consuming placebo or dummy pill. A significant reduction in stiffness and improved ability to perform daily activities was also demonstrated with the specialized rosehip powder versus the placebo after 3 months.

In a 4 month study 65% of the osteoarthritis subjects versus only 44% on the placebo experienced a reduction in joint pain. Joint mobility also improved significantly compared to the placebo.

In a 3 month study 66% of osteoarthritis subjects given specialized rosehip powder achieved joint relief compared to 36% of the subjects given placebo.

Specialized rosehip powder was also tested versus placebo in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and demonstrated to significantly improve their disability index scores at 6 months while scores for the placebo group worsened.

Based on the proven science specialized rosehip powder had many benefits over other joint health products including the following:

Soothes achy joints.

Works fast, in as little as three weeks

Effective in four out of five people

Improved joint mobility and enhanced quality of life

100% natural

Not animal or shellfish derived

No major food allergens

No known drug interactions or side effects

Pain

Dealing with pain can be the hardest part of having arthritis or a related condition, but you can learn to manage it and its impact on your life. Pain is the body’s alarm system that tells us that something is wrong. When the body is injured, nerves in the affected area release chemical signals. Other nerves send these signals to the brain, where they are recognized as pain. Pain often tells the affected person that action is required. Long-lasting pain, like the one that accompanies arthritis, is different. While it tells you that something is wrong, it often is not as easy to relieve. Managing this type of pain is essential to enhance quality of life and sense of well-being.

Causes of Arthritis

Arthritis pain is caused by several factors, such as: inflammation, damage to joint tissues, fatigue that results from the disease process. Arthritis pain and inflammation cannot be avoided as the body ages. Along with physical changes, such as difficulty in moving, the emotional ups and downs of arthritis also can add to your pain. If you feel depressed or stressed because your movement is limited or you can no longer do some of the activities you enjoy, your pain may seem worse. You may get caught up in a cycle of pain, limited abilities, stress and depression that make managing your pain and arthritis seem more difficult.

Signs of Arthritis

Arthritis pain can be ongoing or can come and go. It may occur when you are moving or after you have been still for some time. You may feel pain in one spot or in many parts of your body. Your joints may feel stiff and be hard to move. You may find that it is hard to do daily tasks you used to do easily, such as climbing the staircase or opening a jar or even writing.

Pain and stiffness usually will be more severe in the morning or after periods of inactivity. In some cases of inflammatory arthritis, the skin over the joint may appear swollen and red, and feel warm to the touch. Some types of arthritis can also be associated with fatigue.

And because there are a lot of great offers for arthritis pain reliever available in the market to consider, it is essential to find out your options and opt for the very best arthritis pain reliever.

In terms of opting for the finest arthritis pain medication you just need to to know what arthritis pain you’re struggling with.

Arthritis pain medications can be found in a few classes and they are helpful in taking care of arthritis symptoms, avoiding joint damage, and also bettering mobility and body function.

In most cases, there are actually 5 types of arthritis pain medications such as:

* NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)

* Analgesics (painkillers)

* Corticosteroids

* DMARDs (disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs)

* Newer biologics

As stated previously, it’s vital that you educate yourself about the drugs in each category and learn your alternatives.

NSAIDs have already been used as a treatment for arthritis for over thirty years. These medications possess analgesic or painkilling, anti-inflammatory and even anti-pyretic or fever-reducing properties. Because these drugs are found to most likely cause significant negative effects patients really should consider advantages in addition to the risks of taking NSAIDs.

Corticosteroids are a class of steroid hormones and therefore are drugs that are closely linked to cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal cortex. These were found to give striking results and spectacular improvements that it was regarded as being a discovered “cure” for arthritis. The use of corticosteroids expanded throughout the years and has now been found to have considerable side effects. So far, they’re still put into use orally and also by injection to help reduce inflammation.

DMARDs are called disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs which appear to decrease inflammation nevertheless they aren’t listed as anti-inflammatory drugs. These prescribed medicines don’t relieve pain directly, do not lower production of prostaglandin in addition to don’t help reduce fever. On the other hand they decelerate the disease process by way of modifying the immune system.

Biologic Drugs or Biologic response modifiers are drugs that re-establish the immune system’s ability to have the ability to counteract disease or infection.

Natural Remedies or widely known as alternative and natural treatments happen to be gaining popularity and so are mostly desired because they act as complement to traditional therapies. A few of these treatments have gained little respect concerning their effectiveness mainly because there are claims to have little scientific research to support it as well as warnings for potential drug interactions and adverse reactions. As a result, prior to trying any treatment it is very important to discuss with your physician and be well-informed pertaining to any treatment.

Topical arthritis treatments or products are recognized as preparations applied to the skin. They are available in the form of over-the-counter arthritis cream. These work well in soothing minor arthritis and muscle pain. Some arthritis creams may comprise of salicylate as the active component while many could have capsaicin or menthol which gives a pain-relieving effect.

Joint surgery, often is widely seen as the ultimate option to start treating patients with arthritis particularly if there is damage to the joints that experts claim significantly disrupts mobility and function. Joint replacement surgery is demonstrated to offer impressive arthritis pain relief for several arthritis patients. Ahead of taking surgery as a possible option, it’s critical that you are aware about what to expect before, during, and after the procedure.

Not surprisingly, arthritis is generally painful and may hinder you from carrying out your normal daily activities. You don’t need to tolerate painful arthritis as help and relief will always be attainable. All you need is to seek the advice of your doctor straight away.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic and systemic inflammatory disorder. It attacks synovial joints, but may attack other tissues and organs in the body. It causes swelling, stiffness, and pain, and eventually damages the bones, tendons, and cartilage. It causes deformities and limiting motions. Although less common compare to other arthritis, this debilitating disease is very painful that needs an immediate rheumatoid arthritis pain relief. It has a huge impact to the life a patient as it limits the body movement of a person, and deforms the bones.
Rheumatoid arthritis pain relief can be given for chronic or acute pain. Controlling the pain is more important that to cure the disease because it can cause anxiety to a patient. The medications enhance the mobility of a person and give comfort in the synovial joints. However, before trying to do any pain relief, always consulted doctor first. These drugs can cause side effects to the people using it, especially if prolonged use such as hypertension and gastrointestinal upset.
NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Non-inflammatory Drugs) and narcotic medication are powerful painkillers. NSAID examples are ibuprofen, naproxen, and Celebrex which treat mild to moderate pain, while for narcotic pain, which treats moderate to severe pain are killers are oxycodone and codein. However, the prescribed drugs only act as painkillers. It did not solve the underlying condition. Steroids are also prescribed by a doctor, which is not for painkiller, but to reduce inflammation. Clinical Trials Hold Promise for New Oral Rheumatoid Arthritis Medication

A large stage three trial of an experimental rheumatoid arthritis medication, tasocitinib, has met two important goals – the drug provided an improvement in signs and symptoms of the disease in study participants, and it improved their ability to function physically. The study also made some progress towards a third goal – disease remission. “When it works, it really works,” enthused primary investigator Dr. Roy Fleischmann of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, “This is the first oral medication for rheumatoid arthritis that has had a successful phase three study this century.”

The study included 611 patients with active moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who had not experienced relief from existing meds for arthritis. Two-thirds (66%) of the study participants on a 10 mg dose of tasocitinib reported improvement in disease activity and symptoms after three months, as did 60% of those taking a 5 mg dose, and only 27% of those given a placebo. Those given either strength dose of tasocitinib also reported twice as much improvement in their ability to perform everyday physical activities such as dressing, washing, walking, reaching and gripping.

Tasocitinib belongs to a new class of immune system suppressing medication called JAK inhibitors. It takes a different approach to reducing inflammation than existing RA medications, working by blocking a receptor on cells called JAK-3 to interfere with intracellular signaling pathways. The drug’s developer, Pfizer, will be completing further studies to measure the new drug’s effectiveness against current rheumatoid arthritis medications around mid-2011. Regulatory approval is not expected for another year or two.

Rheumatoid arthritis is one of over 100 types of arthritis, and is typically more painful and disabling than the much more common osteoarthritis. RA is a painful, chronic autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation and swelling of the joints and surrounding tissue. It is progressive, damaging and deforming the joints and increasingly impairing physical functioning and mobility. In severe cases, RA can cause harmful inflammation in other parts of the body, including the lungs, eyes, skin and nerves. Its cause is unknown, but it runs in families and is believed to have a genetic component. RA affects about 1.3 million Americans, and usually strikes people in their 40s and 50s. It is three times more common in women than in men.

Early, intensive treatment with a combination of RA medication offers the best prognosis. First line medications include NSAIDS and corticosteroids. Second line RA medications include immune suppression drugs such as Rheumatrex (generic methotrexate), which can be taken orally or as methtrexate injections. These first and second line drugs often don’t provide sufficient relief for moderate to severe RA, in which case the newer injectable biological response modifiers, which target immune triggers, may be added. These injectable medications are expensive, inconvenient, carry the risk of infection, and can worsen other conditions such as MS and congestive heart failure. About 20 to 40 percent of RA sufferers don’t respond to rheumatoid arthritis drugs.

Tasocitinib appears to hold out hope of a breakthrough in terms of a convenient, effective oral medication with fewer side effects than those currently available to RA sufferers. “As with all drugs, we need long-term information on safety,” says Dr. Alan Matsumoto of Arthritis and Rheumatism Associates in Washington, DC, “But from both an effectiveness and safety view, tasocitinib looks to be very promising.” Pfizer is also testing tasocitinib’s effectiveness in treating psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, and in combating rejection in organ transplants.

How can you naturally ease the pain associated with arthritis? By reducing the inflammation! Makes perfect sense since arthritis is an inflammatory disease.

Traditional synthetic medications give quick relief by masking the pain-which is a blessing to anyone suffering the daily agony of arthritis. Like most medications though they can and have had profound side affects. Fortunately, before more people had adverse reactions some arthritis medications were pulled from the market as they were proven to cause heart attacks, strokes, and fatal skin diseases. Not my idea of a safe long term solution. Even the use of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications like Motrin and Aleve are known to harm the protective lining of the stomach with prolonged use. That issue alone causes over 16,000 deaths yearly in the U.S. Again, a scarey solution in my book.

So what can you do? Natural treatment is a wonderful option. The premise is to get to the root cause of the inflammation and treat it-not just mask it. Natural remedies offer you the ability to feed your body what it needs to heal itself naturally and even prevent diseases from occurring in the first place.

Below is a simple, safe, natural and healthy regime for arthritis sufferers.

1. PHARMACEUTICAL GRADE CELLULAR NUTRITION – The root cause of arthritis is oxidative stress and free radical damage. To combat this we need to build our bodies antioxidant defenses and immune system. This alone could prevent arthritis in the first place.

2. PHARMACEUTICAL GRADE FISH OIL – Known as Omega 3-Fatty Acids. This is a natural anti-inflammatory our bodies use to assist settling down inflammation where it is not needed anymore – as in after an injury.

3. PHARMACEUTICAL GRADE GLUCOSAMINE SULFATE – This has the natural effect of building up cartilage and blocks the effects of some enzymes that are known to destroy cartilage.

4. PHARMACEUTICAL GRADE GRAPE SEED EXTRACT – This will help control oxidative stress and also has anti-inflammatory properties.

There are also some nutrients you can add to your diet that can reduce inflammation. Tumeric or MSM help lower the inflammatory response in arthritis.

Even if you take a prescription medication and add this regime, you will find a lesser degree of dependency on it over time.

In conclusion, one thing everyone in the medical world agrees on is that we have too much inflammation on our bodies. It has also been proven that it is the underlying cause of many diseases. More on that to come!

Arthritis is the painful condition which is related with the inflammation of joints. To reduce the pain and other complications, an effective arthritis treatment is necessary to manage the disease. The problem of arthritis can be treated properly under the supervision of doctor. The person suffering from the problem of arthritis should know about the different treatment options. The patient may try several treatment options and medications over the period. It is a long process to find the best treatment. Some of the important options for treatment are –

Medication options: Several classes of arthritis medications are available which work very effectively in controlling the symptoms of arthritis, prevent joint damage and improve mobility and function. Arthritis medications are divided into 5 categories like NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), analgesics (painkillers), corticosteroids, DMARDs (disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs), and the newer biologics.

Pain Relief: Pain gives the signal that there is something wrong in the body. If the pain is chronic then our day to day life gets affected. It is very necessary to manage the pain properly and with least negative impact. There are both types of options pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic so that the person suffering from the problem may try.

Natural remedies: In the recent period, alternative and natural treatments have gained a huge popularity. It serves as a complement to traditional therapies. There are various remedies but some are very popular and some get little respect regarding their effectiveness. Natural remedies suits very effectively in some patients so they don’t opt other medications or other line of treatment. Rumatone Gold Capsules and Oil are popular herbal remedies for relieving arthritis pain and inflammation.

Topical Arthritis Treatments: There are various topical arthritis products which are very effective in treating the problem. There are many anti inflammatory oils such as Rumatone Gold Oil which are easily available online. They are very effective and soothing for muscle pain and minor arthritis.

Joint surgery options: Usually the option of Joint surgery is considered to be the last resort treatment. When damage in the joints greatly interferes in the movement and in doing our day to day work then patient has to choose this option. Initially people suffering from arthritis pain try all the possible alternatives. When they are unable to recover or they are not in a position to do their daily activities then by the advice of the doctor they go for joint surgery options. In joint surgery, especially in joint replacement surgery many patients have had great success. But success is not hundred percent.

Keeping our joints flexible and free of arthritis can be quite a challenge, and many people feel that arthritis is simply an inevitable part of aging. With some good planning and some good habits, however, it is often possible to avoid this painful and often debilitating disease, or at least to reduce the severity of arthritis symptoms when they do occur.

One of the best ways to prevent arthritis from taking hold is to get plenty of exercise. Many studies have found that those who exercise on a regular basis suffer from far less arthritis than those who rarely or never work out.

Of course exercise has a great many benefits over and above the prevention or arthritis. Regular exercise has also been shown to improve overall health and fitness, and it may even help us live longer.

Another great way to reduce your chances of developing arthritis later in life is to eat a healthy diet. Diet is thought to have a significant role to play in the prevention of arthritis, and like exercise, a healthy diet will help you in many ways unrelated to the problem of arthritis.

Of course it is not always possible to completely prevent arthritis from happening, and it is important to choose a safe pain medication to deal with the uncomfortable aspects of arthritis. The well known problems with many prescription arthritis medications have led many people to wonder just what is safe.

The best way to find the safest arthritis medication is to consult with your physician. Only your doctor will have the complete information necessary to make such an important decision. No arthritis sufferer should attempt to self medicate, and it is important to follow the advice of your doctor when it comes to preventing and treating arthritis.

Arthritis is a serious medical condition, and it is unfortunately all too common. There are remedies available, however, that can reduce the pain, inflammation and discomfort of arthritis and related conditions. Cases of arthritis are on the rise, and as the population of the country continues to age, cases of arthritis are only likely to rise still further. While there are some promising new treatments on the horizon, as yet there is no sure cure, so it is important to do what you can to safeguard the health of your joints and to treat the symptoms as best you can when they do occur.

Have you ever suffered from arthritis? Many of us often have misconceptions about certain medical conditions. For instance, because elderly people often suffer from arthritis, we may conclude that it cannot affect younger people. That is wrong. Also, arthritis itself is technically not a disease. So what exactly is it? Arthritis is a medical condition that causes people’s joints to become swollen and painful.

Just the facts

Here are some interesting facts about arthritis:

• It includes more than 100 unique diseases that impact regions in or surrounding joints
• It affected about 46 Americans (1 in 5 adults) in 2006.
• It is the top cause of disability among Americans (at least 16-years-old)
• It yearly costs the U.S. economy 8 billion.
• It yearly causes over half a million hospitalizations
• It affects almost 300,000 children

Joints, bones, and antagonistic muscles

To better understand arthritis, we need to comprehend how our joints function. The bones of our skeletons work as a group of levers that move around joints, which are points where pivoting takes place. This happens as muscles switch between contracting and relaxing. Meanwhile, the muscles surround the joints in pairs. So each group of muscles directs bones in one particular direction, while a twin “antagonistic” muscle group moves the bones in the converse direction.

Among the numerous types of arthritis, here are some of the most common:

Osteoarthritis: This is the most common type of arthritis. It causes the joints to worsen. Cartilage covering the tips of bones within the join wears down. The result is that as the bone starts to scrape against the bone, one’s range of motion is reduced, and pain is created.

Rheumatoid Arthritis: This is a disease in which the body’s immune system attacks normal cells. The result of is that the lining of the joint becomes red or swollen. This type of arthritis mainly strikes women, and is one of the most powerful types of arthritis.

Gout: This condition primarily affects males. It usually results from a blemish in the chemistry of the body. In the majority of cases, this condition affects small joints and the big toe in particular. But there is good news for you! Gout can nearly always be totally managed with changes in diet, and certain medication.

Fortunately, you can use several types of treatment s for arthritis:

Medication: Numerous types of drugs can be used to treat arthritis, and they have different purposes. These can include reducing pain, lowering soreness, and attacking the disease itself.

Surgery: The majority of people who experience arthritis could never require surgery. On the other hand, surgery can be very beneficial for those with extremely damaged joints, and when other types of treatments are not effective. Joint replacement is the most popular form of arthritis surgery.

Physiotherapy: This can improve people’s strength, flexibility, and mobility. When used with medication, pain can be significantly reduced. Physiotherapists can create a treatment plan especially for you, which could include exercise, hydrotherapy, and pain relief methods.

Massages with hot stones are another type of effective treatment for arthritis sufferers. When we suffer from stress, our bodies produce too many hormones. Thus, the body attacks its own joints, resulting in rheumatoid arthritis. Through massage, the body’s muscles, ligaments and tendons are relaxed, thus creating balance within the body.

More specifically, a massage moves the muscle and regions around the joints, increasing the body’s circulation of blood and lymph. Thus, the body gets rid of more toxins. The ultimate result is that the movement of the joints is significantly improved. In addition to massages improving the condition of the actual joints, they also relieve the symptoms of arthritis. Massages warn arthritis to stay out of your joint!

Arthritis Pain and Joint Pain: Know your Pain Relief Options

The term “arthritis” refers generally to an inflammation of the joints and is typically associated with stiffness and joint pain. The different forms of arthritis vary in terms of cause, severity and potential pain relief treatments.

Management of arthritis pain depends not only upon the specific condition, but also upon your age, lifestyle, and unique response to different treatment methods.

Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis

The two most common forms of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Together these conditions affect approximately 40 million people in the United States alone.

* Osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition involving deterioration of the cartilage in the joints, resulting in joint pain or stiffness.

* Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease affecting the lining of the joints. While osteoarthritis is far more common, rheumatoid arthritis is often a much more severe form of the disease.

Before assessing your arthritis pain relief options, it is important to consult with a physician to determine whether you have arthritis, and if so, which type since treatment options differ.

Common Causes of Arthritis Pain

The joint pain associated with arthritis may be caused by a variety of factors. Most commonly, arthritis pain originates from:

* Inflammation of the tendons, ligaments or lining of the joints. This inflammation may be accompanied by swelling or redness, which results in joint pain.

* Joint tissue damage, which may be related to an injury or excess pressure on the joints.

* Fatigue, which is sometimes a result of arthritis and can make the joint pain seem more intense and the condition more difficult to cope with.

Arthritis Pain Treatment Options

There are a variety of ways to treat arthritis pain and other joint pain. It’s essential to be aware that people respond differently to different treatments. An individual’s response to pain and pain relief treatments is affected by the particular disease or condition he/she suffers from, the severity of the pain, and a range of psychological and emotional factors.

Short Term Pain Relief

One of the most important considerations when evaluating arthritis pain relief treatment options is to be clear about whether you are focusing on short or long term pain relief.

For short term relief from arthritis pain, many people use hot or cold therapy, depending on the type of pain and the specific condition. Cold therapy in the form of an ice pack can sometimes provide pain relief by reducing swelling, but may not be a good option for patients with poor circulation. Heat therapy, either moist or dry, acts as a muscle relaxant, and can also provide short term pain relief.

Certain drugs can also give quick, short term relief from the joint pain associated with arthritis. Depending on the amount of inflammation, doctors will often recommend a pain relief medication such as acetaminophen or a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) like aspirin or ibuprofen.

Another non-drug alternative that provides some patients with short term relief from arthritis pain is TENS, or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. A TENS unit delivers electrical pulses to nerves in the affected area. The pulses block pain messages that the nerves would normally deliver to the brain, thereby bringing pain relief to the patient.

TENS therapy may also raise the level of endorphins produced by the brain. Endorphins are substances that are produced naturally in the body and contribute to feelings of well-being and pain relief.

Long Term Pain Relief

Because both rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis are chronic conditions, sufferers often need to look for long term options to deal with their joint pain.

Drugs such as NSAIDs provide some level of pain relief. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis, disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) target the immune system and are helpful for some patients. Corticosteroids are hormones that are sometimes prescribed for treatment of the joint pain and inflammation that typically accompany arthritis.

For many people with arthritis pain, exercise and physical therapy can help reduce stiffness and joint pain. Depending on the severity of the condition, walking, swimming, and a variety of strengthening and/or aerobic activities may be helpful, not only in pain relief but also from the standpoint of improving patients’ self-confidence and psychological and emotional well-being.

Overweight people suffering from arthritis pain are frequently advised to lose weight, since additional weight places an added burden on the joints.

In a small minority of cases, medication and lifestyle changes do not provide the desired pain relief and doctors may recommend surgery. Surgical procedures can remove tissue within the joint, or else realign or replace the joint.

As we age, most of us begin to feel joint pain. This is often felt in our knees, such as knee inflammation, stiffness, pain while walking, and swelling even in our knuckles. However, many people experience these symptoms even when they are young. These individuals are often confused as to why this has happened to them. However, learning about the potential causes and treatment options can assist you with fighting the issue without much trouble.

Types of Arthritis

Arthritis comes in a variety of forms. The following are some of the most common and severe types of arthritis.

A degenerative type of arthritis that is stems from a breaking down of the joints is called osteoarthritis. Some of the more common causes include obesity, joint overuse, and injuries. Heredity has also been proven to play a role in this form of arthritis.

An autoimmune disease where the immune system perceives a protein form to be a foreign substance is known as rheumatoid arthritis. The result of this is that the lymphocytes, from the immune system, begin sending cytokines. These are primarily tumor necrosis factor and interleukin-1, who reacts by causing swelling, pain, and degeneration.

Symptoms

Joint pain in the hips, spine, knee, and feet is associated with osteoarthritis. Swelling of the joints, fatigue, and arthritis pain is associated with rheumatoid arthritis. Pain and inflammation that occurs in a consistent pattern is common with this form of arthritis.

The following are some additional symptoms:

stiffness
pain
inflammation and swelling
rash

Treatment

Treatment revolves around reducing pain and inflammation, and can consist of the following:

exercise
medication
dieting
relaxation techniques

Effective Natural Arthritis Pain Relief Treatments

I discovered several years ago a little-known natural solution for curing arthritis pain. I found relief from my arthritis pain, naturally, and you can do it too. To get the arthritis pain relief you’re seeking it’s helpful to understand how arthritis works.

There are more than 100 different types of medical conditions that can affect your joints; it’ll be difficult to treat your condition effectively unless you know exactly what your diagnosis is; get diagnosed. As a result of arthritis, the bone beneath the cartilage undergoes changes that lead to bony overgrowth and the tissue that lines the joint can become inflamed, the ligaments can loosen, and the associated muscles can weaken.

The combination of the collagen meshwork and high water content tightly bound by proteoglycans creates a resilient, slippery pad in the joint, which resists the compression between bones during muscle movement. Collagen is the main protein found in all connective tissues in the body, including the muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Damaged joints cause pain and sufferers are constantly looking for ways to relieve the pain.

Aging cells may be a factor in the development of arthritis. Most experts now believe that osteoarthritis results from a genetic susceptibility that causes a biologic response to injuries to the joint, which leads to progressive deterioration of cartilage. Genetic factors are thought to be involved in about 50% of osteoarthritis cases in the hands and hips and a somewhat lower percentage of cases in the knee.

If you really want to get rid of your arthritis pain forever it may take a radical change in your diet and an ongoing commitment. Gluten may be a culprit in arthritic diseases including fibromyalgia; avoid wheat, barley, rye, spelt, triticale, kamut and oats (although not a gluten grain it gets contaminated at the wheat mills). One natural approach is to consume foods that are known to help relieve arthritis pain or prevent arthritis.

Many have told me that going off dairy products and gluten containing foods relieved their arthritis pain entirely. Make highly nutritious raw applesauce using a food processor and put in 3-4 cored pesticide-free apples, with the skin on, and mix for a minute; so much better for you than canned highly processed applesauce and add 1/4 tsp. cinnamon or two tablespoons of freshly ground flaxseed for another boost. Watch your diet closely – load-bearing joints are affected by excessive weight; they are the hips, knees, feet and spine.

One natural treatment method involves avoiding all inflammatory foods. Studies done on antioxidant vitamins question the value of these supplements; it’s clearly better to consume these antioxidants in living foods because they may also need to work with other nutrients present in the foods to work properly.

Try avoiding the eight most allergic foods, wheat being the most allergenic; they are wheat, corn, eggs, milk, peanuts, fish, shellfish and some nuts, not all. For natural treatment for arthritis make an appointment with a naturopathic doctor, called a naturopath; ask around for referrals.

Don’t just sit there, keep moving. Exercise your affected joints every day, to keep them flexible. Fight arthritis through proper exercise! Exercise is good for joints affected by osteoarthritis.

If you have pain and swelling in your fingers, try squeezing Thera-putty made for this purpose or exercising with two Chinese chime balls. Sign up for water aerobics classes at your local community center. For arthritic fingers, a good exercise is to put your finger tips together and press hard and release, then repeat several times.

Conventional doctors may suggest the standard protocol for your joint pain; they tell you to take over-the-counter NSAIDS or prescribe COX-2 inhibitors, of which all have side effects. Drugs commonly used for arthritis pain can cause ulcers, heart disease and liver or kidney damage. For conventional treatment of arthritis – if you do choose to take drugs or medications, be very careful and read the labels thoroughly.

The biggest secret to arthritis pain relief is to change your diet now; eat foods that are alive. One should not only search for relief of arthritis pain but work on preventing it. Following these suggestions can help you get back in the swing of things and allow you to spend your days enjoying life once more.

After years of suffering, I finally found relief from my arthritis pain, naturally, and you can do it too. There’s a natural solution to curing oneself of arthritis pain that I discovered several years ago. The first step when looking for solutions to an arthritis pain problem is to understand how arthritis works.

As a result of arthritis, the bone beneath the cartilage undergoes changes that lead to bony overgrowth and the tissue that lines the joint can become inflamed, the ligaments can loosen, and the associated muscles can weaken. Arthritis pain can be experienced whenever a stiff or swollen joint is used.

Cartilage is one of the few tissues that does not have its own blood supply. Proteoglycans are large molecules that help make up cartilage; they bond to water, which ensures the high-fluid content in cartilage Collagen is the essential protein in cartilage; it forms a mesh to give support and flexibility to the joint.

Possible causes of arthritis include lesser known: bleeding disorders, like hemophilia, that causes bleeding to occur in the joint; disorders such as avascular necrosis, that block the blood supply closest to the joint; and conditions like hemochromatosis, that causes iron build-up in the joints. Genetic factors are thought to be involved in about 50% of osteoarthritis cases in the hands and hips and a somewhat lower percentage of cases in the knee.

An inflammatory response causes cytokines, to gather in injured areas and cause inflammation and damage to body tissue and cells; it’s known to play a role in rheumatoid arthritis and other muscle and joint problems associated with autoimmune diseases.

The first step in managing your arthritis is to change your diet; I think all experts would agree on this. With natural treatments there will be fewer, if any, side effects or adverse reactions. Nutrition experts say it takes a combination of supplements, that no one supplement can relieve arthritis pain, build cartilage, etc.

Some of the supplements commonly used for relieving arthritis pain, but I don’t know if any of these work, are: glucosamine, chondroitin, bromelain, grapeseed extract, omega-3 and omega-6, cod liver oil, manganese ascorbate, MSM, boron, niacinamide, pantothenic acid, vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E.

Many arthritis sufferers have changed their diets and noticed significant or total improvement. I used a totally living food diet to completely rid myself of arthritis pain.

I know quite a few people who are drinking tart cherry juice to relieve their arthritis pain; has to the tart kind though. Many have told me that going off dairy products and gluten containing foods relieved their arthritis pain entirely.

An acidic diet, that is any foods not alive, is considered to be inflammatory to the joints. Some foods and beverages to avoid that are inflammatory are: caffeine, salt, sugar, meat, dairy products, additives, soft drinks, white flour, white rice, alcoholic beverages, fast food, processed vegetable oils, refined, packaged and processed food.

If weight is an issue, try to use exercises that will help you in losing weight such as walking. Whatever you do, keep moving; don’t sit when you can stand, don’t stand when you can walk. Exercise is good for joints affected by osteoarthritis. For arthritic fingers, a good exercise is to put your finger tips together and press hard and release, then repeat several times.

Even if you don’t think you can exercise, you can do some movements. Important exercises for arthritis are range-of-motion exercises, isometrics, and some weight bearing exercises. Keep a bedside basket of arthritic aids for arthritic hands (Theraputty, hand grips, Taiji chime balls, etc.) to be used at bedtime or while watching television.

If you’re going to go the conventional treatment route and take medications, ask your pharmacist for drug inserts so you can read up on the drugs and understand any side effects or adverse reactions, before taking them. Be aware that the use of NSAIDs or Cox-2 inhibitors do not halt the progress of osteoarthritis and may even hasten the onset.

If you’re planning to take any of the non-prescription NSAIDS for arthritis, make sure you understand what bad effects they can have on the stomach, liver and/or kidneys and discuss this with your doctor.

Knowing more about arthritis and how it works will ultimately help contribute to your relief of arthritis pain. Arthritis pain relief is the ultimate goal – understanding arthritis is a good way to get there. Following these suggestions can help you get back in the swing of things and allow you to spend your days enjoying life once more.

The term “arthritis” refers to the chronic inflammation of joints throughout the body. Arthritis is one of the most rapidly growing chronic conditions in North America. Osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis, is also known as wear and tear arthritis and degenerative joint disease. This form of arthritis classically affects the knee joint, the hips and other weight bearing joints. Other forms include rheumatoid arthritis and gouty arthritis.

New treatments for arthritis are constantly researched. The most common arthritis medications are non-steroid or steroid anti-inflammatory drugs which, although effective, have serious side-effects. They can have unpleasant side effects: cause weight gain, acne, osteoporosis, hypertension, diabetes, cataracts and infections. The side effects of steroids impact on almost every system of the body, and the more steroids you take, the more side effects you are likely to experience.

The newest findings link arthritis not only to poor diet and obesity, but also to the overall state of the immune system. Quite recently, researchers have found a protein in the immune system that malfunctioned in patients who have arthritis or other inflammatory diseases. Doctors believe they can block this protein to reduce the need for steroids.

As the general population ages, the number of people with arthritis is growing. Today arthritis medications are aimed at baby-boomers who have spent more years living with obesity than the previous generation. Researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center have found that there are more cases of obesity-related arthritis among baby boomers compared to the previous generation.

What we eat often plays a large role in setting the stage for the start of arthritis. There are a few changes anyone can make to their diet to successfully offset arthritis even without using arthritis medications.

The typical North American diet contains an overwhelming amount of cooked, processed and other acid forming foods. A healthy diet should be 70% alkaline and 30% acidic. Unfortunately, the average North American diet has reversed this ratio.

Instead of eating cooked foods that are acid forming, a diet of mostly raw, fresh vegetables, fruits and reducing the consumption of meats are an excellent way to help reduce inflammation throughout the body.

To ease your arthritis symptoms without succumbing to arthritis medications, avoid foods that form acid in your body. These foods include bread, coffee, corn, honey, oatmeal, peanuts, rice, soy, pasta and wheat. When treating arthritis, stay away from saturated fats, such as butter, cream, and margarine.

Antioxidants in brightly colored fruits and vegetables offer substantial protection against arthritis. By eating more yellow and orange fruits and vegetables you will consume antioxidants called carotenoids, which can lower your chances of developing inflammatory arthritis. Some dietitians suggest that night-shade vegetables are unsuitable for arthritis patients, which means you should think twice about eating peppers, (red, green and yellow), potatoes, tomatoes and eggplants.

Build your arthritis diet around such alkaline-forming products as most berries, bananas, dates, figs, prunes, raisins, almonds, asparagus, avocado, fresh beans, beets, carrots, grapes, plums, spinach, apricots, broccoli, all kind of cabbage, cantaloupe, celery, cherries, chestnuts, chicory, coconut milk, fresh sweet corn and cucumbers. Focusing on vegetables instead of proteins will ease many other symptoms and help you reduce weight too.

Proper hydration is a must. Drink half your weight in ounces – that would be 75 oz of water for a person weighing 150 pounds. If you must drink alcohol, coffee or soda, drink an extra 16 oz of water for every alcoholic drink and cup of coffee or soda you consume in addition to the water you would normally drink.

Arthritis is a condition that takes years to develop. In many cases, arthritis can be avoided or effectively managed through the use of alternative methods that include proper nutrition, hydration and specific nutritional supplements that can reduce the damage done to aging joints.

Arthritis Pain Relief- Curing Arthritis Symptoms With a Natural Treatment

The soothing words of ‘arthritis pain relief‘ bring you back to years ago when you didn’t have to worry about the pain, the stiffness, the misery associated with the disease. But now you are willing to try anything for curing the arthritis symptoms. But before you can cure it, you should know something about arthritis.

1. It is extremely important to know the cause before you know the cure.
2. Preventing arthritis is how you cure arthritis.

I understand the temptation with simply popping the pills that make the pain go away for hours. It’s easy and works like a Band-Aid to hide the problem. But during those few hours of comfort, you can actually be doing more physical harm to the arthritic joints. And that is why millions of people are curing arthritis symptoms with a natural treatment.

Two decades ago, it was believed that arthritis was just a symptom of old age. There was nothing you could do about it but deal with the pain. However, this all began to change after researchers discovered how indigenous tribes’ members in undeveloped countries lived to upwards of 100 years of age with no arthritis symptoms documented. What was even more astonishing was how these people would live, hunt, gather, plant, harvest and work right up till their dying day. How could this ever be?

Could a natural and healthy lifestyle be the cause of an arthritis free life? And could arthritis pain relief be as simple as altering your diet?

The Cause of Arthritis?

There are hundreds of different forms of arthritis but most often the cause of arthritis can be blamed on a person’s lifestyle health. Typically, arthritis is caused by the following: poor diet; unbalanced diet; inactive lifestyle; stress; inefficient vitamins; improper breathing; and lack of sleep. And if these are the causes of arthritis; then the cure for arthritis would be the opposite. Let me explain!

Arthritis Natural Treatment

Fact! A thirty year old landfill was recently uncovered and its contents were (to say the least) disturbing. In this landfill much of the garbage was decomposed but one thing of many that was NOT decomposed was a 30 year old hotdog. Scientists say that food preservatives kept the hotdog from spoiling. Are you thinking what I am thinking?

Preservatives are everywhere in our diets. Chances are, if you are reading this article via the internet, you have consumed numerous preservatives and additives already today. Because if you live in a developed country, your FDA has approved over a thousand additives and preservatives over the past few decades.

But what does this have to do with arthritis? Well consider how many tribesmen have never consumed one additive or preservative their entire life; and also have never suffered the slightest pain of arthritis.

Research has concluded that our diet is closely linked to arthritis pain relief. Here are 10 tips to begin your natural treatment today!

Arthritis Pain Relief Tips

1. Cans! Typically anything in a can is loaded with preservatives and additives. Including your average soft drink.

2. Caffeine! Drink less coffee and more herbal teas.

3. Enriched! Anything with the words ‘enriched’ is not a good choice for arthritis.

4. Sugar! Most arthritic symptoms are associated with high amounts of sugar.

5. Stay away from dairy products. If you go with dairy products; go organic. The hormones that have changed the dairy industry have also contributed to the arthritis cases.

6. Fresh fruits and raw vegetables! These water-soluble fiber foods are great for arthritis sufferers.

7. Protein! Eat protein from any lean meat, eggs, beans, grains and nuts.

8. Water! Drink 8-10 glasses of water each and every day! This is extremely important for curing arthritis.

9. Fresh! Stay away from fast foods and processed foods that contain numerous preservatives and additives.

10. Spoil in Weeks! The best foods are always fresh and raw. Eat foods that will spoil after a couple of weeks.

Is There More?

What supplements will save me from pain? What vitamins does my body lack? What breathing exercises (you can do at work) will blast oxygen to my joints. Why does your body need a toxin flush? What foods should you eat and NOT eat? What herbs have helped millions of sufferers? And what can we learn from a deer about arthritis and rebuilding joint cartilage?

If you are serious about a natural arthritis cure, that will save you from the medication and the surgery, please check out our Arthritis Natural Treatment Report that gives a step-by-step remedy that lasts a few weeks and is guaranteed to show results. You can start your treatment today by visiting our safe and secure website.

If you take paracetemol or an anti-inflammatory drug when you suffer from pain, you’re not alone. A 2005 study, reported in the American Journal of Therapy, showed paracetemol was the most acceptable form of analgesic drug for two-thirds of patients with osteoarthritis pain.

Another study on behalf of the International Arthritis Action Group, found 47 percent of Australians in pain do not use medication because they’re worried about side effects, or feel they don’t know enough about the risks and benefits of treatment. Some do try medication but if it doesn’t work they’re reluctant to discuss an alternative with their GP or specialist. Often they give up searching for help and assume they have to live with soreness and pain. Not so.

Paracetemol may be effective for a first line of defence, but for long term relief it may be worth considering these 7 natural food and supplement options.

OMEGA 3 FISH OIL.

Fish oils are derived from deep sea fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies and tuna. They provide a rich source of the omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. According to Dr Ronald Klatz, president of American Academy of Anti-aging Medicine, omega 3s are excellent anti inflammatories, which may be beneficial in the pain relief of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis.

Omega 3 fatty acids may also be taken in capsule form and can be beneficial when combined with glucosamine sulfate. One helps to build and support cartilage, the other works to ease inflammation.

COOKED VEGETABLES AND OLIVE OIL.

A diet loaded with cooked vegetables and olive oil, may help reduce the pain, swelling and discomfort of rheumatoid arthritis, according to a study from Harvard School of Public Health and reported in American School of Clinical Nutrition.

Your body makes bad prostoglandins that cause swelling and pain and good prostoglandins that prevent swelling and pain. Aspirin and other arthritis pain medicines contain drugs that block the bad prostoglandins.

Cooked vegetables and olive oils contain polyunsaturated and monounsaturated oils that are used by your body to make the good prostoglandins that block pain and swelling. They are also loaded with antioxidants.

ASHWAGHANDA ROOT.

This herb is used extensively in Ayurveda, the traditional medicine of India. It stimulates immunity and as an antioxidant, reduces cell damaging free radicals.

Its anti inflammatory properties have been shown to be helpful for the pain of arthritis.

LEMON BALM.

An important antioxidant containing a high concentration of phenols, chemicals that fight cell damaging toxins. It can help decrease the pain of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

EVENING PRIMROSE OIL.

The active ingredient in this plant is gamma linoleic acid [GLA] an omega 6 fatty acid. Supplementing with evening primrose oil may help in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis pain. Taken by many women to relieve period pain, it could also cut the chances of women with breast cancer having a relapse, according to an American study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

SULPHUR RICH FOODS.

Sulphur is vital for the repair and rebuilding of bones, cartilage and connective tissue. Sulphur rich foods include cabbage, onion, broccoli, garlic, leak and eggs.

Sulphur can be taken in supplement form as MSM {Methyl sulfonyl methane} and is often included in formulas that include glucosamine and chondroitin. According to Dr Ronald M. Lawrence, of the UCLA School of Medicine and Founding Member of the American Association for the Study of Pain, people with joint issues often lack the proper amount of sulphur to let the body heal itself.

WILLOW BARK.

White willow bark is a natural aspirin. According to naturopath Ron Gellatley, it reduces swelling and pain without any side effects. Try drinking away stiffness and pain with a cup of hot willow bark tea. To brew the tea, add one teaspoon of dried willow bark to a cup of boiled water. Steep for 5 minutes, then strain before drinking.

Home Remedies & Herbal Supplements for Arthritis

Herbal remedies have gained popularity as a natural approach to other arthritis treatments. Herbs are the basis for many traditional medicines.

Home Remedies
Prepare garlic paste and apply the paste on the affected joint; it is an effective herbal remedy for arthritis. Regular consumption of garlic cloves in raw condition reduces the problem of joint pains.
One teaspoon of honey and two teaspoon of lemon juice added in one glass of lukewarm water works well against the pain and swelling of arthritis. This is an efficient home based herbal remedy in controlling the pain of arthritis.
Add two teaspoon of honey and two teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in lukewarm water for regular consumption in the morning. Drinking turmeric powder added lukewarm water helps relieving pain of arthritis.

Herbal Supplement

Shallaki herb [also known as Boswellia serrata] helps in reducing the problem of blood circulation, controls the swelling of joints, and relieves joint pain.
Taking Aswagandha two times per day with ½ glass lukewarm water is an efficient herbal remedy of arthritis. It will surely help improving the condition on regular use for at least 10-15 days at a stretch.
Rheumatil is s natural remedy containing a combination of traditional ayurvedic herbal extracts, effective in reducing joint pain and inflammation caused by arthritis, spondylosis, sports injuries and other joint problems.
Arthrella is a natural remedy for Rheumatoid Arthritis and induces remission. It minimizes joint stiffness and swelling, relieves pain and inflammation of involved joints and protects unaffected joints from succumbing to arthritis

Management of Arthritis
Treatment options vary depending on the type of arthritis and include physical and occupational therapy, lifestyle changes (including exercise and weight control), medications and dietary supplements (symptomatic or targeted at the disease process causing the arthritis). Arthroplasty or joint replacement surgery may be required in eroding forms of arthritis.

Exercise regime
Arthritis experts emphasize that a well-designed exercise program can decrease the pain and stiffness you feel — while increasing your range of motion. Talk to your doctor about the kinds of exercise that best suits your particular needs.
While high impact activities such as running and floor aerobics can increase joint pain, regular gentle exercise (such as swimming, water aerobics and biking) has been shown to reduce or prevent joint pain. Exercise benefits your cartilage too as the action of the joints increases blood flow, which in turn brings nutrients to the joint and removes waste products. Building strong muscles around your joints can help to support them and reduce your chances of injury.

Weight Control
By reducing stress on your joints, controlling your weight helps prevent osteoarthritis of the knees and other weight-bearing joints. And it lessens pain in those who have it. To keep weight off, lose it gradually — no more than two to five pounds per month. Eat fewer calories and exercise more to lose weight.

Heat and Cold
Applying heat or cold to sore joints can temporarily relieve the pain and stiffness of osteoarthritis. Heat helps to relax aching muscles. Cold can numb the area to reduce pain. Ask your doctor or therapist which method is best for you.
Medicines

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – NSAIDs
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – NSAIDs – are widely used anti-inflammatory treatments of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. NSAIDs differ from analgesics in an important aspect: while analgesics treat pain, NSAIDs treat both pain and inflammation. By blocking these actions of prostaglandins along with the inflammatory ones, traditional NSAIDs can lead to an upset stomach and peptic ulcers, or interfere with kidney function, according to Arthritis Today. For many people, NSAIDs are used as anti-inflammatory treatments of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Serious side effects include gastric upset and internal bleeding, so use of NSAIDs requires a doctor’s supervision.

Prescription analgesics / painkillers
Prescription analgesics are one of the many types of medication used to treat arthritis pain. They do not treat inflammation, or the underlying disease condition.
Prescription analgesics are classified as either narcotic or non-narcotic. They may be prescribed along with other types of arthritis medicine. Many doctors have sought to avoid prescribing narcotics for long term treatment due to concerns about drug dependency and addiction. There have also been concerns about side effects such as chronic constipation, dizziness, nausea, and breathing problems sometimes associated with narcotics as well as non-narcotic painkillers.

Disease Modifying Arthritis Drugs (DMARDS) for Rheumatoid Arthritis
For patients that have rheumatoid arthritis who show poor response to NSAIDS, a different class of medication called disease-modifying drugs or DMARDS is available. These drugs differ from each other and from other arthritis medications in their onset of action, method of administration, cost, potential side effects, and the need for monitoring for potential side effects. The severity of the arthritis, previous response to other medications, and history of other health problems will help determine which drug or combination of drugs will
